Tonya has been part of the Sunnyside family for 13 years, and we think that definitely deserves a celebration!
No two days are ever the same for Ton, from caring for our residents, keeping everything running smoothly, and being there when she’s needed, Ton somehow manages to fit it all in — always with a smile and a good laugh along the way!

Tonya genuinely cares about every one of our residents and brings so much compassion, patience and dedication to her role as a nurse. She is someone our residents know they can rely on, and she is loved by staff for her caring nature, sense of humour and the way she always makes time for others.

And while Ton takes her nursing role very seriously… she definitely doesn’t take herself too seriously! 😆 Whether it’s joining in an activity, having a laugh with the residents or getting involved in the fun, Ton is always up for it.

We’re so lucky to have you, Ton — thank you for everything you do for our residents, our team and Sunnyside House. Here’s to many more years!

Today is a beautiful reminder that happiness doesn’t always come from big moments or occasions. Sometimes, it’s found in a sincere smile, a shared laugh, a conversation, or simply enjoying someone’s company.

These simple moments of connection at Sunnyside are what make each day meaningful, and we feel privileged to capture and share a glimpse of them for you.

Because sometimes, happiness can be this simple.

I Once Was......

Behind every face is a lifetime of stories, achievements, and memories.

Our residents have been teachers, parents, workers, carers, leaders, nurses, farmers, adventurers and so much more. They have contributed to their families, and their communities in countless ways.

“I Once Was” is a gentle reminder that our residents are not defined by where they are today.

Today, we celebrate their stories and achievements and remember that every person has a history worth knowing and a story worth sharing.

💕 A Lifetime of Love, Friendship & Teamwork 💕

Terry and Elaine Kenna's story began when they met in their early twenties. Sixty-seven years of marriage later, they are still the very best of friends.

When asked the secret to such a long and happy marriage, they both gave the same answer: friendship, doing everything together, and always working as a team.

Elaine grew up in Terang and Terry in Glenormiston. After they married, they made their home in Terang, where they enjoyed spending time together at local dances and community balls. Terry, one of ten children (eight brothers and two sisters), and Elaine, the eldest of four, were both raised with strong family values that continue to guide their lives today. They often say how blessed they feel to have such a wonderful and supportive family around them.

Together they raised three sons and are proud grandparents to five grandchildren. They lovingly describe their daughter-in-law, Julie, as "the daughter we never had." Their family has also taken them on many adventures, including memorable trips to Paris and Malaysia, where two of their sons now live.

Elaine has always had a passion for craft, spending countless hours making beautiful baby blankets to donate and sell within the community. Reflecting on his life, Terry simply says, "I've had a good run at life." Elaine shares that she has been incredibly fortunate to have Terry by her side for almost her entire life, adding, "I've lived a life better than I ever thought was possible."

This month, Terry celebrates his 90th birthday, while Elaine will celebrate her 90th birthday in January. Together, they now call Sunnyside home, where they continue to share the love, friendship and unwavering support that have been the foundation of their remarkable life together.

Terry and Elaine say they couldn't be happier at Sunnyside. They describe the environment as welcoming, the staff as exceptional, and feel they have everything they need. Their outlook on life is beautifully simple:
"Every day is a gift."

Happy 90th birthday, Terry, and thank you both for sharing your inspiring story with us. We are honoured to have you as part of the Sunnyside family.

Celebrating 15 Years at Sunnyside!

Today we celebrate Dot Wilson and her incredible 15 years of dedication to Sunnyside.

Dot began her journey with us in housekeeping before moving to the laundry, where she continues to take great pride in her work. Over the years, she has seen many changes, but one thing has remained the same—her love for coming to work each day. Dot says Sunnyside feels "like a small family," and the highlight of her day is spending time with our residents.

Thank you, Dot, for 15 years of hard work, kindness, commitment, and the wonderful care you bring to Sunnyside every single day.

Congratulations on this wonderful milestone!

Today's team-building activity may have looked like it was all about having fun, and while we certainly shared plenty of laughs, there was a much bigger purpose behind it. The exercise challenged us to communicate clearly, listen actively, and work together to achieve a goal. It highlighted the importance of understanding different perspectives, supporting one another, and recognising that effective teamwork relies on both speaking and listening.

"Exceptional care begins with exceptional communication"
