Good news! The NSW Productivity and Equality Commission has rejected mandatory e-bike insurance.

Its hot-off-the-press review of insurance options found that education and enforcement are much more important than compulsory insurance to address community concerns about safety, compensation and accountability.

“Bicycle NSW is very pleased that the Commission agrees with our position that insurance is not the key to safer streets," says CEO Peter McLean. "We thank the Commission for its balanced, well-informed and evidence-based approach to this review.

“This is a BIG win for all the Bicycle NSW Members who ride a legal e-bike safely."

🚲 A big win for stronger, safer connections across Bayside West!

Last night, Council voted unanimously to develop a plan for a safe walking and cycling route linking Bexley North, Rockdale, Banksia and Carlton train stations. 🎉

I’m really proud to have put this forward as a Peaceful Bayside priority but this has been a real community effort.

Thank you to Andrea Jackson for Peaceful Bayside, Dom and our super Peaceful Bayside volunteers who got out into the community with me, talked with residents and helped map the connections that matter locally. ❤️💚

Representing Ward 3 is so good. We sit right in the middle of Bayside connecting Ward 4 and Ward 5 and also Ward 2!

When you walk or ride around Bayside, you realise just how close we all are. Our schools, shops, library, pool, parks, sporting facilities and train stations are already connected but people need safe routes to get between them.

We’ve spoken to so many residents, young and old, who are excited about this proposal but don’t feel safe riding at the moment.

This plan will look at quieter streets, parks and shared paths to make it easier to get to school, work, the shops, the station or simply around the neighbourhood.

Council will now identify the preferred route, costs, funding opportunities and a delivery timeframe for 2027/28.

This is how we build a more connected Bayside making it safer and easier to get around, one neighbourhood at a time. 🚲

in NSW, Share Bike operators will now require authorisation from TfNSW and Council to operate. This is aimed at ensuring better management of footpath clutter.

Footpaths will be cleaned up and shared e-bike operators will be held to higher standards as a result of landmark laws that come into effect today in NSW.

Around 16% of all trips in Japan are made by bicycle. That's five times more than Britain, and not far behind the Netherlands. Now here's the strange part. Japan achieved this with almost none of the things we're told cycling needs. In Tokyo, just 1.6% of the road network has any cycling infrastructu...

Truly Incredible, good job London!

London’s Cycleway network has reached a major new milestone, growing to 450km!

This is longer than the entire Tube network and further than the distance from London to Paris, making London’s Cycleway network five times larger than it was in 2016!

This is what we call progress!
