Today, BCD was proud to be part of the Dying to Know Day, a big thank you to South Western Sydney PHN (SWSPHN) for hosting such a welcoming and informative event, and for creating a safe space for our community to talk openly about death, dying, grief and planning for the future.

Our three key takeaways from the day:
🔑 Start the conversation early
Talking about end-of-life wishes doesn’t need to be frightening. Open conversations can help families feel more prepared and supported.
🔑 Planning helps your voice be heard
Advance Care Planning, wills and other important documents can help ensure your choices, values and wishes are understood.
🔑 You don’t have to navigate it alone
There are many local services and professionals available to provide information, guidance and compassionate support.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to speak with the BCD team. It was wonderful connecting, learning and sharing resources with our local community.

🏡 Almost one month into the new NDIS SIL Practice Standards

Already being a registered NDIS provider before the 1 July changes, we have been able to focus on strengthening what good, safe and respectful SIL support looks like in everyday practice.

That means continuing to focus on:
✅ Listening to customers and supporting their decisions
✅ Helping people feel safe, respected and comfortable at home
✅ Providing skilled, consistent and well-managed support
✅ Clearly explaining housing, tenancy and support arrangements

As SIL registration becomes mandatory from October, we are proud to keep learning, improving and putting each customer’s voice and choices first.

💛 Meet Uncle Larry!

He is a valued member of the BCD community and a proud Aboriginal Elder with a deep connection to Dharawal Country.

He loves sharing stories, spending time with his family and grandchildren, going for drives around the Macarthur area and expressing his culture through art. 🎨🌿

As upcoming NDIS changes strengthen registration requirements for Supported Independent Living providers, BCD customers can feel reassured that their supports will continue as usual.

BCD is already an established, approved and registered SIL provider with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, meaning we are ready to keep delivering safe, quality supports while meeting the strict standards, audits and safeguards required under the NDIS Commission’s regulatory framework.

Sometimes elder abuse is not obvious.
It may start quietly. An older person feeling unheard, pressured, isolated, controlled, or unsure if what they are experiencing is okay.

On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, BCD reflects on the important role aged care providers play in noticing the small signs, listening with care, and helping older people feel safe, respected and supported.

For us, care is not just about daily support. It is about trust, dignity, choice and making sure every older person knows they have a voice.

From 1 October 2026, some older people receiving Support at Home may have approved personal care covered through government funding. Personal care can include help with:
🚿 Showering
👕 Getting dressed
🍽️ Help with Eating
🧼 Hygiene and Grooming
🚽 Continence support
💊 Medication assistance

Personal care is more than just help with daily routines. It can help keep people safe, healthy and comfortable at home.

For example, when a care worker helps Mary shower, they may notice a red mark on her skin before it becomes a wound. Or when they help Sue with toileting, they can help her stay clean, dry and comfortable, which may help prevent skin problems, infections and falls.

Small supports each day can make a big difference.
