CELEBRATING LOCAL WINNERS & SMART TECH!

A massive shout-out to our fantastic friends at DWARFLAB, who generously donated 2 x DWARF Mini smart telescopes as raffle prizes for our community events back in June and August! 🌌🎁

We were absolutely thrilled to see both of these incredible prizes go to local community members. Smart telescopes are making deep-sky astrophotography portable, easy, and accessible for everyone—from backyard stargazers to local landholders.

🖤 Fact #7 (The Wildlife Shield): Artificial outdoor lights heavily disrupt the natural breeding cycles, plant pollination, and migration paths of regional birds, animals, and insects.

🖤 Fact #8 (Our Massive Footprint): To safeguard these ecosystems, our reserve covers a massive 3,200 km². This spans 14 local townships from Blanchetown down to Tungkillo and Wongulla.

Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles) is now officially an International Dark Sky Sanctuary - the first in the Northern Territory and only the third in Australia 🌟

By day, the ancient granite boulders rise from the red earth of the Barkly. By night, with almost no light pollution, the milky way stretches across one of the Northern Territory’s most spectacular landscapes.

The high lunar light is positioned perfectly to illuminate the historic 19th-century buildings and stone fences, creating beautiful sharp shadows and brilliant horizons across the valley floor.

For the dedicated late-night star hunters, the moon dips below the western horizon in the early hours of Sunday morning. This opens up a pristine, 3-hour window of total dark-sky clarity, revealing a dense blanket of crisp stars until the morning twilight begins to break.

The ultra-thin 8% crescent moon will float right next to a brilliant Venus and the star Spica, creating a perfect glowing picture frame right over the river ridges.

[The Starry Dark Window (8:29 PM Onwards)]: At 8:29 PM, the crescent moon slips beneath the horizon, leaving the sky completely dark. This opens up an uncompromised 9-hour window of total darkness to view the massive, detailed backbone of our Milky Way galaxy and thousands of deep-winter stars perfectly until dawn!
