Being diagnosed with breast cancer is hard enough. What’s even harder is finding out that a treatment you rely on may no longer be available.

This week, concerns were raised following news that Zoladex, a medication used by many Australians with breast cancer, will be discontinued on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) after a decision from pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. For people who depend on this treatment, uncertainty about access can add significant stress during an already challenging time.

Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) is fighting for fair and equitable access to treatment options for all Australians with breast cancer.

This is why our advocacy work matters. We work with government, health professionals and industry to ensure the voices of people affected by breast cancer are heard and that access to vital treatments remains a priority.

How far we have come in just one year!

We recently celebrated one year since our international commitment to count the number of people living with metastatic breast cancer.

This pledge was made across international borders with our partners Breast Cancer Now in the UK and Rethink Breast Cancer in Canada – because data is the missing link to better health outcomes and quality of life for people living with metastatic breast cancer.

We’re so pleased that Australia has been able to lead the way globally in providing the first national estimate of people living with metastatic breast cancer.

We won’t stop advocating for the ongoing count of Australians living with this disease, and now it’s time for the rest of the world to catch up.

Like so many across the country, we’ve spent today reflecting on the powerful conversations sparked by the Kylie documentary on Netflix.

Our CEO Kirsten Pilatti shares a personal reflection on what resonated most — particularly the moments that so honestly capture the reality of living through breast cancer. The parts that are often unseen, but deeply felt long after treatment ends.

Her words are a reminder of the importance of early detection, the emotional and lasting impact of diagnosis, and the comfort and strength that can come from shared experience and open conversation.
