Crohn's & Colitis Australia

Crohn's & Colitis Australia Empowering people to live fearlessly while we help search for a cure of Crohn’s and colitis.

Crohn’s & Colitis Australia (CCA) has been working with people living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, healthcare professionals, governments and the public to minimise the impact that these conditions have on the community since 1985. For more than 36 years, CCA has been the only Australian organisation working with and for patients and their families, the doctors that treat them, and

the policymakers who can bring about change. CCA provides high quality information, supports life-changing research and campaigns vigorously – for more knowledge, better services and more support for people affected by inflammatory bowel disease.

Paige was 11 when her symptoms started. For six years she was told it was just IBS.

By the time she was diagnosed with severe Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis at 16 – the damage was done.

Now 21, Paige is still living with the consequences of those lost years.

Your donation today will help fund the research that changes outcomes like Paige's.

Earlier answers. The right treatment. Real lives improved.

Please donate before 30 June → crohnsandcolitis.org.au/appeal/

Do you speak Chinese and live with IBD?

We’ve created resources in your language, and we want to know what you think. Head to the link in our bio and have a read. The survey will appear on the bottom right-hand side of the screen upon leaving the webpage.

Your feedback helps us make sure these resources are actually useful for your community.

"Sometimes I wonder if my condition would be less severe if I'd been taken seriously earlier."

Paige was only 11 when her symptoms started. She wasn't diagnosed until she was 16.

In those five years, she was told it was just IBS. Given Ibuprofen for pain that was anything but ordinary.

Sent home without answers, while severe Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis went undetected and untreated.

This story is not unique to Paige. 1 in 3 Australians with IBD wait over a year for a diagnosis. 1 in 10 wait more than five years.

Earlier diagnosis means earlier treatment. Earlier treatment means better outcomes.

But that requires more research – into the gaps, the missed signals, the years lost to the wrong care.

Your tax-deductible donation before 30 June directly funds that research.

40 years ago, one woman in suburban Melbourne saw the silence, the stigma, and the lack of support - and decided to do something about it. 💜

In 2025, CCA marked that anniversary with some of the most significant progress the IBD community has seen. A landmark State of the Nation report now in front of the Department of Health. Researchers moving closer to replacing colonoscopies with non-invasive ultrasound. Global collaboration accelerating what's possible for Australians with IBD.

None of it happens without this community.

Our 2025 Impact Report is out now - and there's still time to be part of what comes next. A tax-deductible donation before 30 June directly supports CCA's goal of driving real change: better access to care, earlier treatment, and more investment in research.

Sometimes living with IBD means you just need to talk to someone who actually gets it.

Connect with a Peer connects you one-on-one with someone who's been there - a real person living with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis who understands what you're going through.

No clinical advice. Just honest conversation and genuine support.
