ECHO crew, under the guidance of Echo Duty Officer Kevin W, did some well planned assessments this evening for Karen and Dave in relation to towing across the bar at night. Best laid plans went astray with a 'per chance' sighting of a vessel aground on the bar, so aborted the exercise and retrieved the stranded vessel with Coast Guard 2 and towed her to the Caloundra Power Boat Club.

Once completed, they recommenced the bar assessments until yet another request for assistance for a small tinnie with engine problems back towards Golden Beach area. Caloundra Rescue immediately responded and secured the vessel and towed them back to Golden Beach. All in a nights work..

Once that was completed, they again recommenced the assessments for Karen and Dave, which I believe went very well.

Thanks to Radio Officer Stevan T for managing such a very busy night in such a professional manner and to the two crews that responded so very,very well to the ' interruptions ' to their planned evening.

On arrival it appeared that it was an issue with her draft…

Plan A was for Kev, Roger and Karen on CG2 to gently motor in, so as not to suffer the same fate, throw a line to them and tow them clear; with a plan B of CR to be the backup tow vessel. Thankfully, the mighty CG2 succeeded with ease. Another safe and happy customer.

Echo Crew had a very busy weekend with an Assist and an ashes scattering. The crew also took PBCR up to Moloolaba to participate in Coast Guard Mooloolaba QF6 50 year celebrations.

In addition, a crew member completed his GPH qualification while others were assessed on towing a boat over the bar and plan and navigate to Mooloolaba. The crew braved very cold conditions out on the water.

Thanks to all crew and Radio Officers for a big weekend of volunteering.
