Mercy Ships uses hospital ships to deliver free, world-class health care services, capacity building and sustainable development to those without access in the developing world. Founded in 1978 by Don and Deyon Stephens, Mercy Ships has mobilised some 35,000 volunteers working in more than 70 countries. Free services provided to date, are valued at more than $1.66 billion, treating more than 2.77 million direct beneficiaries. Each year Mercy Ships has more than 1,600 volunteers from more than 40 nations. Volunteer medical professionals and crew have completed 590 port visits in 56 developing nations and 18 developed nations. Professionals including surgeons, dentists, nurses, health care trainers, teachers, cooks, seamen, engineers, and agriculturalists donate their time and skills to the effort. Mercy Ships seeks to transform individuals and serve nations one at a time.

Menisco's warm smile stayed with him, even through years of teasing and rejection because of his cleft lip.

Sometimes he walked away quietly. Other times, he simply said, "I said that it will be fixed one day."

When his family learned the Africa Mercy was offering free surgery in Madagascar, that hope finally became reality.

Today, Menisco is home with a new smile, and his mother hopes he'll carry the same brave and cheerful spirit into a bright future.

When Elvianne was born with a cleft lip and palate, her mother, Elvinne, wondered if her tiny baby would survive.

Feeding was a daily struggle, and people in their village believed she wouldn’t live. But Elvinne never stopped praying or hoping.

After hearing about Mercy Ships on the radio, a friend helped them reach the Africa Mercy. With nutritional support and life-changing surgery, Elvianne began to thrive.

A moment worth seeing. 💙

Following eye surgery on board the Global Mercy, one of our first ophthalmic patients in Ghana had his bandages removed.

Waiting in front of him was his partner, and the moment he was able to see her again was one to remember.

It’s one of the first moments of transformation as surgeries get underway on board the Global Mercy in Ghana, with many more journeys of hope and healing still to come.

At just 11 years old, Jaminatu suffered a serious burn injury that left her with limited movement in her left arm. Everyday activities became difficult, and eventually, she stopped going to school.

Surgery on board the Global Mercy was only one part of her journey. Months of rehabilitation followed, helping Jaminatu regain movement and independence before she could finally return home.

Today, she can look towards the future again.

“I want to be educated,” she shared.
