Dr Edwin Stephen, a general vascular and endovascular surgeon from India and board member of Mercy Ships International, recently visited the Global Mercy to provide vascular surgical training to nine general surgery residents in Sierra Leone.

“The participants said they’ve never had anything like this in their training program. They felt it was very useful for the future, especially if they encounter a bleeding problem,” he shared.

Alongside delivering life-changing surgical care, Mercy Ships is committed to strengthening local healthcare systems by equipping and empowering clinicians.

In less than three hours, the surgical team on board the Africa Mercy removed a condition that had weighed on her family for years.

“I thank God because I did not expect that we would get here,” her mother, Florence, shared.
