“Spring passes and one remembers one's innocence.
Summer passes and one remembers one's exuberance.
Autumn passes and one remembers one's reverence.
Winter passes and one remembers one's perseverance.”
― Yoko Ono

Perserverance. An apt word in golf which is a game (?) that requires one from avoiding contemplating hideous acts of violence and drives one to despair. On the other hand a birdie (or two) makes one immediately forget all past thoughts and the world is a beautiful place once again.

Let's not talk about getting eagles though, its as rare as rocking horse poo at the club - but it does happen. (Actually the birdies nest is higher than the eagles nest currently, so its worth winning if the number gets called out).

This weekend its a stableford game as usual. Sponsor at this stage is the Fremantle Pirates Golf Club Inc.

Tee off is at an earlier time of 7.32 so reset your alarm clocks, wear your woolly underwear and heaviest jumper as its gonna be brass monkey weather !! Arrr....

A quick apology required first loyal viewers. I forgot to take pics of everyone who turned up today, and it was a good turnout for a game of Bisque Par.
The weather gods were very kind ,- until the last hole, but we finished before the downpour arrived. More on this in another post.

Thanks to Fremantle Pirates Golf Club Inc for sponsoring the day.

We welcomed back Anthony Cox and Ronan McCauley who have rejoined as members (I think). They are both excellent players and hit the ball further than most of us...when they're on 😆.

Ok,results as follows: first place went to Alex Stirling on +5. He copped a NAGA recently and was very pleased to have a win. Runner up on +4 was Paul Lister, another good score and third on countback from at least 3 others was Paul Bachman who is very camera shy.

It must be because of his looks! (Medusa is better looking..just sayin..)

Quite a few Pirates stayed back due to heavy rain indulging in a competitive game of pool. Alex is actually a competition pool player and showed all of us up..but Coxy is a reasonable player too.

“Alright, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?” The Judean People's Front Monty Python.

You know, sometimes we in Oz often forget how well off most (but not all) of us citizens are. And boy don't we like to whinge and complain how hard our lives are these days. Mainly like blaming the pollies for our woes..much like the Monty Python sketch. (Some things never thange).

But there's a solution.

Play golf at the Fremantle Pirates Golf Club Inc. In fact, this weekend is another game that counts towards your consistency points (but doesn't affect your handicap). Yep, its Bisque Par..a good fun day out. And, afterwards, we can again discuss what the Romans have done for us, apart from the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system, and public health.

Days of Wine and Roses. Ah yes it was one of those magnificent days today. Perfect in every way for golf, wine and banter after the game, the kind you experience on a balmy summer afternoon.

Actually, the movie of the same name starring Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick was a searing look at alcoholism and its long term effects, but after all we are the Fremantle Pirates Golf Club Inc .

Enough seriousness. Today's game was a club championship round and we had a nice sized field show up. Pity a couple of players couldn't make it..one called in sick. Fair enough.

We welcomed a potential new member Lyall Jones. Hope he enjoyed his round with us.

In first place with a good net 72 was ....Rick Goulter. Runner up on net 73 was Donald Wilson who was very Zen today..so it seemed. Best gross on countback withan 89 went to Glenn Carroll from Adam Edwards. (Mr Takomo we call him with his fancy new clubs 🙂).

Best putting round went to Phil Place on 31 putts from Adam Edwards.

That's it for another round. Next week it's Bisque Par..so get your names in by Wednesday.

There. You see folks? we can all be like greek gods, fatties or unhealthy as a plague victim and still be good at gorf. (Apologies to my former friend who always used to call it that :) ).

Well this weekend its the fifth round of club championships. Luckily, we won't have 115 km/h winds and rain to contend with.

Unluckily, rain has been forecast so its best to come rugged up and bring the oilskins in case it pours. (Anyone remember oilskins? its what sailors used to wear in storms but I'm unsure if they are still for sale these days...maybe a bit politically incorrect?)

Our sponsor for the weekend is the ever faithful Fremantle Pirates Golf Club Inc. - unless someone else wishes to step in. Umm, its also Members Draw so you get a double chance to win some b***y.

The winds! The rain..well it was more windy than rainy..but we copped a fair few showers too. But the wind was close to gale force all day long. It made playing very difficult and the scores generally reflected this. 😔

It was that windy it would have blown the Flying Dutchman ashore with ease. Nobody wants to see the Flying Dutchman..except maybe Davy Jones.

The field was diminished because of the weather (sooks) so no sympathy from anyone who played. Gotta be hardy to play this game!

A huge thanks to Chris Reid and Liz Jolly for their extremely generous sponsorship today. They were really cool prizes..wish I could have won something 😆.

It was a 4BBB event. In first place with a strong 38 team points were Chris Woodford and Mike Clifford. Runner up on countback with 36 points were Rick Goulter and Donald Wilson .

Best gross went to Keith Reid who must be pleased with a semblance of some form with a 95 off the stick.

Next week it's the 5th round of club champs, hope to see a bigger field showing up.

"The whole wood seemed running now, running hard, hunting, chasing, closing in round something or—somebody? In panic, he began to run too, aimlessly, he knew not whither.”
Kenneth Grahame

Have you felt like that ? I have. But golfing is a great soothing balm in between moments of madness.

Ok enough babbling. This weekend we have two lovely sponsors being Chris Reid and Liz Jolly . They are coming all the way from Boddington and are amongst our highly cherished members. Country people always bring great prizes 🙂.

The game at this stage is stableford off the whites, but it could change depending on what Chris and Liz decide on the day.

It's highly likely to rain..bring a brolly or your rubber coats and pants.

Or both!
