A berry merry cook got cooked day to those who celebrate!
Here at Gimuy Q***r Collective, our love languages are:
- Showing up in solidarity, not just on January 26 but everyday we occupy lands that are not ours.
- Listening and learning.
- Calling each other in and walking together.
- Widening the paths carved by those before us, for those who come after.
- Reciprocal care, mutual respect, and letting anger drive us to action instead of despair
- Celebrating Cook Got Cooked Day, honoring indigenous sovereignty and the right to protect land
- Committing to learning, unlearning, and standing beside the oldest continuing cultures on earth in their fight for justice and sovereignty: because our liberation cannot exist without first the liberation of the land and its people.
We are powerful when we walk together. We are at our weakest when we allow hate into our shared humanity.
Our collective chose to use Gimuy over Cairns to honor the lands we protest on, to pay thanks wisdom and lessons from Elders that came before us that sparked a rich and long history of resistance and activism in the Far North, and to remind us of where we are, while we strengthen community ties and organise towards liberation together.
Always was. Always will be.
Happy Valentines day lovers! π
*Video description: a sunny day, following Jan 26 march in Gimuy. Walking down the Cairns esplanade board walk, water and tropic green hills behind as the crowd moves past with protest signs such as "not a date to celebrate" and "jan 26 - a day of mourning" as well as aboriginal and torres straight islander flags. To the sound of Jahmal Yami - Blood Majik.*
