Independent Living Support Association FNQILSA is a Cairns based, non-profit organisation, assisting and supporting people with a disability to live and manage their own independent lifestyle.

FNQILSA was established in 1997. It was formed by a group of like minded people with a disability who wanted independence and needed support and assistance to live their daily life. They had a lifestyle package and needed a organisation to manage them. Feed up with the choices available. They pooled all of their funding packages together and created their own unique organisation. They became the m

anagers and decision makers. Who would be better than them to know how their support should be delivered. FNQILSA has and always will operate in this form of service delivery. The Management Committee still consists of the original founding members as well as some new. Few organisations can offer the kind of support that FNQILSA provides, FNQILSA Management Committee live the life themselves, everyday. The NDIS is promising to give you your own packages and choices. That is how FNQILSA was created in 1997. Please come and meet with FNQILSA. Who is better than us (you) to know how our (your) supports should be delivered. We don't have a perfect wrapper to lure you into our door. But we do have the best ingredients and recipe makers, we are people who live the life, it is our service. So.... come and have a ride on our stair lift into our office. Or meet in our tropical garden outside. We would love to show you and discuss with you what we have to offer you.

We’re excited to share that our Mackay office recently hosted three Epilepsy training sessions, bringing together 35 of our dedicated Support Workers as part of our ongoing commitment to a skilled workforce.
Delivered by FACT, a trusted local Registered Training Organisation (RTO), the sessions focused on building skills and knowledge in line with NDIS practice standards. It was fantastic to hear such positive feedback from our team, with many Support Workers feeling confident and empowered to apply what they’ve learned in their day-to-day support of participants.
We were also delighted to receive wonderful feedback from Elsa at FACT, who praised the high quality of our ILSA Support Workers, and gave our training facilities a 10/10 rating.

Beth and Rhian from the Mackay office recently completed a fire safety practice session with an evacuation slide sheet in one of Mackays SIL homes. The evacuation slide sheet allows for quick evacuation of a non ambulant person in the event of an emergency situation.
Rhian safely evacuated Beth from the bed to the ground, and exited the house using the slide sheet. It was an important exercise in learning the correct use, what worked and what didn’t work. This vital knowledge will then form part of the support workers ongoing fire safety training.

They also managed to make sure they got a few laughs out of the participants in the process, proving safety doesn’t have to be scary 😊

From reception, payroll to bookkeeping, accounting, HR, recruitment, workforce planning, rosters, and IT support, the team works behind the scenes to ensure every part of the organisation stays connected and efficient. Beth, our Mackay Service Manager, recently visited the Cairns office to spend time with Debbie (NDIS Team Leader) and Natalie (Aged Care Team Leader) to review and further develop how ILSA approaches the important area of staff training and compliance.

It was a very productive three days with great outcomes, plenty of collaboration, and even a few laughs along the way. We’re proud of the dedication our team shows in continually improving the way we support our staff and the people we care for.
