A big thank you to Australia Post for supporting our Woodwork Skills for Life program through their Community Grant.

Our woodworking program is still going strong, and we are excited to share this video showcasing some of the wonderful women who have been learning new skills, building confidence, and creating amazing projects along the way.

Thank you to Australia Post for helping make opportunities like this possible for the women of She Shed Cairns. ❤️🔨

💜 A little insight into one of the special projects happening at She Shed Cairns 💜

Over recent months, a group of our wonderful members have been busy knitting, crocheting, sewing and assembling beautiful blankets that are being donated to the Sub Acute Care Unit (SACU).

Each blanket is lovingly created from squares made by many different hands, then carefully put together by our dedicated volunteers.

We recently received feedback that these blankets are helping to create a calming environment and are brightening the homes of those who receive them.

This project is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when women come together, sharing their skills and time to make a difference in the lives of others.

A huge thank you to all the ladies who have contributed to this project.

Together, we can create great things.

At just 17 years of age, Cairns Youth Mayor Claudia Kurowski is navigating an unimaginable loss.

Following the sudden and unexpected passing of her dad, Witek, Claudia now finds herself alone. She has no siblings and no immediate family in Australia.

In the midst of completing Year 12 and preparing for the future she had planned, her world has been turned upside down.

Many of you will know Claudia through her service to our community as Youth Mayor and as the Youth Member for Cairns in the Queensland Youth Parliament. She has spent years giving back to others.

Now it’s our turn.

Join me in wrapping our arms around Claudia. Whether through a donation or by sharing this fundraiser, every act of support will make a difference.

Mayor Amy Eden.

How special is this beautiful article by the talented Amanda Cranston featuring not only Australian music icon Kate Ceberano and her love of embroidery and quilting, but also shining a spotlight on our very own She Shed member Tricia Finlay Garrett.

We are incredibly proud to see Tricia featured, sharing her passion for quilting and the joy she brings to others through her weekly classes at She Shed Cairns. Her creativity, patience and willingness to teach and encourage others is what our community is all about.

The article beautifully highlights how quilting, sewing and textile arts are evolving into powerful forms of creativity, storytelling, mindfulness and connection. It’s wonderful to see the important role these crafts play in bringing women together and building confidence through learning and creating.

A huge congratulations to Amanda on such a thoughtful and inspiring piece, and to Tricia for representing She Shed Cairns so beautifully.

We are very lucky to have you as part of our She Shed family.

Take a read below — it’s well worth it. 💕

The Australian rock icon is sharing her other passion: embroidery and quilting.

Woodwork Skills for Life

Some of the wonderful ladies featured in the photos below were part of one of our early woodworking groups and are proudly showing off their completed stools. There were plenty of smiles and a real sense of achievement as they finished their projects and discovered just what they could create with a few new skills and some encouragement.

We would like to sincerely thank Kylie Burke for sharing her knowledge, passion and patience with our members. Her support has helped many women gain confidence in using woodworking tools and trying something completely new.

We are also incredibly grateful to Australia Post for awarding She Shed Cairns a 2025 Community Grant of $10,000 for our 'Woodwork Skills for Life' project here in Cairns.

This funding is helping us provide hands-on woodworking opportunities for women, develop practical skills, build confidence, and create lasting community connections.

Thank you, Australia Post Post, for investing in our community and helping make programs like this possible.

A big thank you to Cairns RSL Club for the funding support to help us expand our kitchen area and build a purpose-built pantry at She Shed Cairns.

This new pantry will help us better organise and store our kitchen supplies, making the space more functional and efficient for our members and volunteers to use each day.

We are incredibly grateful to Cairns RSL Club through their Hospitality Hearts Grant program for supporting this project and helping us continue to improve our facilities for the women in our community.

A special thank you also to Kilfoy Cabinets for designing, building and installing the pantry.

We truly appreciate your support and craftsmanship.

Last night we joined the Rotary Walk to Stand Up and Say No to Domestic Violence.

An evening walking alongside our community to raise awareness and stand together against domestic violence. Every conversation, every step, and every show of support matters.

No one should ever feel unsafe, unheard, or alone.

Today at She Shed Cairns we hosted our Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea fundraiser for the Cancer Council.

A beautiful selection of food was provided through our BYO morning tea, with raffles, games, a cent sale and lucky door prizes all enjoyed by our members throughout the morning.

A big thank you to everyone who attended, donated, brought along a plate, purchased raffle tickets and helped make the day such a lovely event. Together we raised vital funds to support the important work of the Cancer Council.
