AFL Cape York AFL Cape York established in 2003 with the main purpose of coordinating the AFL Kickstart program.

AFLCY development staff travel to 35 Cape York and Torres Strait Island communities rolling out sporting and lifestyle programs. Staff are constantly reminding children of the importance of school attendance and the dangers of drugs, alcohol and anti social behaviours by using AFL as the vehicle.

Another great day on the road for AFL Cape York Game Development, visiting Georgetown and Croydon!

Both groups of young people were fantastic, with great attendance at our school clinics and plenty of improvement in their footy skills over the years.

It’s great to see the continued development across the Gulf Savannah region and the progress these young people are making through our programs.

Thanks to both communities for having us. We look forward to continuing to build on this great work!

Our school program visits across the Gulf Savannah region kicked off today, with our AFL Cape York Game Development team visiting Mount Garnet and Mount Surprise.

Great to get out into the communities, connect with the students and provide more opportunities for young people to get involved in footy.

We’re looking forward to the rest of the clinics, with Georgetown and Croydon on the schedule tomorrow! 🏉 😁

WELCOME TO AFL CAPE YORK, JACOB AMORE!

We’re excited to welcome Jacob Amore to AFL Cape York!

Jacob brings plenty of experience from his previous roles with AFL Queensland, working across community football, school programs and talent development in regions including Brisbane, the Darling Downs, the Sunshine Coast and Gympie. He also has experience working with remote communities and creating opportunities for young people to get involved in footy.

Jacob spent 6 weeks in Bamaga last term, supporting our programs and assisting with our annual Chris Johnson Event.

He’s now back in the Cape and Torres Strait, currently spending 6 weeks working across the Outer Islands, helping deliver AFL programs and create more opportunities for young people to get involved in physical activity.

Great to have you on board, Jacob.

Football brings us together, but culture makes this experience truly special.

Our U17 Crusaders and visiting Pacific Nations teams came together for a night of culture, connection, stories, music and celebration. An opportunity to share where we come from, learn from each other and build connections that go beyond the football field.

What an incredible AFL Pacific Nations Challenge for our U17 Crusaders teams!

Our U17 boys finished the carnival as Champions after an outstanding weekend of footy. After recording four wins from five games, the boys saved their best for Finals, holding their nerve in a thrilling Grand Final to secure a memorable three-point victory.

Our U17 girls were equally impressive, going undefeated throughout the carnival to earn their place in the Grand Final. They fought hard until the final siren, eventually going down to Cairns in a tightly contested match.

Both teams represented their communities, families and the Crusaders program with enormous pride, showcasing the exciting talent and potential coming through our pathway.

What a proud moment to see two former Crusaders, Charlie Cameron and Hamiso “The Hammer” Tabuai-Fidow, featured in today’s Courier Mail.

From their early days coming through our Crusaders program in Far North Queensland to now inspiring fans on the biggest stages of the AFL and NRL, their journeys show our young people what can be achieved through talent, hard work and determination.

We are incredibly proud to have played a small part in their journeys and look forward to watching Charlie and Hammer continue to represent their families, communities and Far North Queensland with pride.

At the end of every game, our Crusaders and Pacific Nations teams came together for a group photo.

Different teams, different communities and different countries but connected through football, culture and shared experiences.

These moments might only take a few minutes, but the memories created will last a lifetime.

This is what the Pacific Nations Challenge is all about.

CRUSADERS TEAM PRESENTATION NIGHT

Our 2026 U17 Crusaders boys and girls came together for their Team Presentation Night ahead of the Pacific Nations Challenge.

The evening was led by Rick Hanlon, who shared what the Crusaders program means to him and the importance of representing your community, your family and the people who have helped you along the way.

The night also featured the presentation of the Crusaders jumpers, with Girls Coach Luana Healey presenting the girls their jerseys and Boys Coach Jake O’Halloran presenting the boys.

For these young men and women, pulling on the Crusaders jumper was about more than playing football. It was about pride, connection, culture and representing something bigger than yourself.

A special night for a very special group of young people.

What a term it’s been running our AFL programs! 🙌

Over 10,000 kilometres travelled in the troopy🚗💨, dozens of footy sessions, plenty of early starts, big drives and busy days.

But it’s all worth it for the smiles, laughs, friendships and good times along the way. ❤️

It’s been an absolute pleasure getting out there, sharing the game we love and watching so many people of all ages enjoy their footy.

A massive THANK YOU to all the schools, teachers, families and communities who make every kilometre worthwhile.
