The lineup for next month's National Science Week Launch at the Tanks is shaping up to be spectacular.
Get ready Cairns – National Science Week is coming to you!

This year's Queensland launch event will be held at Tank 5 in the stunning Cairns Botanic Gardens and it promises to be a cracker.

Hear from Olympian James Connor and Paralympian Korey Boddington on the STEM of sport. Explore a pop-up STEM fair packed with hands-on activities spanning conservation, eco-tourism, innovative local businesses and First Nations bush foods initiatives.

Come dressed as your favourite STEM hero and be in the running to win a prize. Who will you come as – a scientist, astronaut, techie, engineer, tradie, mathematician, health professional or another hero?

Are you passionate about science, technology, engineering or mathematics? Do you want to help connect people, celebrate innovation, and inspire the next generation across Far North Queensland?
The FNQ STEM Hub is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our committee.
The FNQ STEM Hub is part of the Inspiring Australia Queensland network, supported by the Office of the Queensland Chief Scientist and backed by The University of Queensland. Our mission is to connect the STEM community across Far North Queensland by promoting science, supporting local initiatives, and creating opportunities for people to engage with STEM.
As a committee member, you could help:
Support the launch of National Science Week 2026 in Cairns
Be part of Bite-Sized Science or Science in the Tap Room
Connect schools, universities, industry, community groups and researchers
Promote local STEM events and opportunities
Help shape new initiatives that celebrate STEM across our region
There is no expectation that everyone can do everything. Whether you have time to attend a monthly online meeting, help at an event, contribute ideas behind the scenes, or simply lend a hand occasionally, we'd love to hear from you. Every contribution helps strengthen our STEM community.

The FNQ STEM Hub is inviting passionate scientists, researchers, academics and communicators to submit an EOI to present at the 2026 Bite- Sized Science event in March.

Last year's event was an amazing, sold out event that showcased the incredible science happening in our region.

This is a relaxed, supportive atmosphere, with an opportunity to network with our scientific community. Last year's presenters were a range of seasoned speakers and members presenting publicly for the first time.
