⚙️ Engineer the Future – what a fantastic night!
Last Thursday, young scientists and engineers took over the JCU Ideas Lab for Engineer the Future – Free STEM Night! 🚀🔧
Organised and run by Engineers Australia and Young Engineers Australia, the evening gave primary school students the chance to experience engineering through hands-on challenges, problem-solving and plenty of creativity.
Students got stuck into straw bridge building, electronics, water treatment and hydraulic arm activities — discovering along the way that engineering is about much more than building things. It’s about designing, testing, improving, collaborating and finding solutions to real-world problems.
A huge thank you to Engineers Australia and Young Engineers Australia for creating such an engaging opportunity for our region’s young people, and to James Cook University and the JCU Ideas Lab for supporting and hosting the event.
It was fantastic to see students asking questions, experimenting with ideas and meeting people working in engineering and STEM.
🌴 Events like this matter in Far North Queensland. They give young people the chance to see what STEM careers actually look like — and perhaps imagine themselves as the engineers, scientists and innovators of the future.
Congratulations to everyone involved in such a successful night! 👏
