Look at this cute little Melittidia tomentifora, also known as the ‘Smiley bee’ 🐝Named because of the little smile-shaped marking on its thorax! Unlike honeybees, these native bees nest in the ground and are excellent buzz pollinators, which means they vibrate flowers to shake out the pollen. They play an important role in keeping our Wet Tropics rainforest plants thriving, and they even help in home gardens with favourites like tomatoes. 🌱🍅
