Cardiac Challenge

Cardiac Challenge Ride from Cairns to Cooktown to help fix hearts in FNQ. Charity Bike Ride September 19-21, 2026.
(1)

More than $6 million has been raised for health services since the ride's inception in 2007. The Cardiac Challenge is an annual bike ride between Cairns and Cooktown in which riders raise money to participate. The beneficiary of the bike ride is the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation which specifically direct the funds towards cardiac equipment and services that may ultimately benefit you or a family member or someone you know.

It was a pleasure to join some of the cardiac team this week, who are celebrating 40 years of cardiology services!

Our CEO Gina Hogan and Fundraising & Marketing Manager Jenny Coates were delighted to check in with some of the crew.

Cardiac Challenge also is celebrating a milestone this year - 20 years! And in that time we've been able to fundraise more than $6 million for cardiac services in the region. It's been a privilege to support this life-saving crew.

Here's this week's quiz: Which of the people pictured have done the ride, in what capacity, and who will be this year?

Donations are welcome to support the team's fundraising efforts this year at: https://fundraising.fnqhf.org.au/fundraisers/CardiacManiacs74

Everyone has their "why" and for Nick and his family, it's their mum Annie.
What an incredible community has been built around loss but also helping other families who might be experiencing similar.

Out of heartbreak, Cairns businessman Nick Lyngcoln has found a greater purpose, raising almost $200,000 for charity and creating a legion of volunteers through Annie’s Army. INSIDE THE BIG QUESTION ➡️ https://bit.ly/4uMjQRy

Today's birthday shout-out recipient is a man of many hats - cyclist, runner, coffee connoisseur, Dad, Hubby and generally an all-round good guy.
Dion has been part of the ride for a few years and we love how engaged he is, trying to find new ways to promote fundraising and philanthropy.
While he's recovering from an injury this year, we know he's aiming for Pack 1! ;)
Happy birthday, Dion!

"Someone" is having a milestone birthday today.
Happy 21st, Brad Shannon of Pump 'n' Pedals !
In case you haven't heard, Brad is leaving the tools behind and jumping on the bike with son Moe, this year.
Why not throw him a birthday donation?

We know we posted about this guy recently, but bear with us.

Today is Brad Shannon's birthday - we know there is nothing he'd love more for his birthday than a donation to his fundraising page (subtle, hey!)

(Happy birthday, Brad!)

But as he's riding this year, we know the next best thing he'd like is for there to be LOTS of riders taking part in this year's milestone event, so the mechanics he sends on the ride have lots to do!

So spare a thought for Brad and sign up for this year's ride!

In September this year, Pete McNally will ride to Cooktown for the 21st time.
Nope, not 20. Don't forget - he did the ride the year before the "official" ride to see if it could be done.
Pete's contributions to cycling and improving health outcomes (not just in cardiology) are impossible to measure.
So on today, his birthday, why not show your appreciation with a donation to his page?
