Cape York Leaders Program

Cape York Leaders Program Cape York Leaders Program empowers talented Cape York leaders of all ages to reach their potential.

We teach our students how to walk in two worlds and be proud of their culture. Cape York Partnership is committed to empowering talented Indigenous leaders of the region to drive and own the Cape York Agenda, by providing them with the necessary leadership skills. The Cape York Leaders Program supports the development of current and future Cape York leaders. Since its inception in 2005, more than

600 people have grown their academic and leadership skills through the Cape York Leaders Program. Community-driven initiatives in economic development, social responsibility, education and home ownership is rebuilding the social and economic fabric of Cape York communities, which has frayed over the last four decades. Productive social norms can only be re-built with community leaders who are champions for change; through education, training, access to mentors, and practical experience. The Cape York Leaders Program aims to assist its members in building the confidence and skills they require to become positive role models within their communities.

πŸ“š We recently caught up with students during a school visit at Clayfield College, where boarding staff shared positive feedback about the girls’ improved effort and engagement in boarding and school routines.

During the visit, students spoke about preparing for their upcoming exam block and requested support with an after-school shopping trip to purchase school supplies and essentials.

It was great to see the girls showing initiative, staying focused on their goals and taking practical steps to feel organised and ready for assessments. ✨

We are proud to celebrate Zaina from The Cathedral School of St Anne & St James - Townsville for showing wonderful initiative and cultural pride.

During her own lunch break, Zaina created a Kuku Yalanji language display for her school community, translating Kuku Yalanji words into English so her peers could learn, engage and connect with Indigenous language and culture.

Her thoughtful work is a beautiful example of leadership, pride and generosity in action. Well done, Zaina. πŸ‘

A huge congratulations to CYLP scholars Kevisani and Blaine from St Peters Lutheran College after their recent New Zealand rugby tour πŸ‘

Kevisani proudly led the team as Captain throughout the tour, showing leadership, commitment and pride both on and off the field.

Blaine was also recognised as MVP in the final, an outstanding achievement that reflects his hard work, dedication and strong performance across the trip.

Both students represented themselves and their school incredibly well, including through the powerful speeches they delivered during the tour. These moments highlighted their confidence, character and growing leadership.

Opportunities like this create lifelong memories, strengthen teamwork and give our students valuable experiences to grow through sport and high-level representation.

Well done boys. CYLP is proud of you both πŸ’™

πŸ“š The boys at Marist College Ashgrove have been keeping busy throughout exam block, working hard to finalise assessments and complete scheduled exams.

Alongside their studies, students have also been supported with important life administration tasks, including tax file number applications, digital identification setup, driver’s licence photos and organising bank cards.

These practical steps are helping our students build independence and prepare for future opportunities, while staying focused on their learning.

Well done to the boys for their effort and commitment during a busy time.

It was great to catch up with our CYLP tertiary students in Brisbane recently πŸ’™

The evening gave us a chance to hear how students are going with university life, their studies, wellbeing, future goals and everything in between.

It was also a valuable opportunity for students on the scholarship program to connect with others studying at the same universities, share experiences and build community away from home.

From career pathways and placements to balancing study, work and life, we are proud to see our students growing, striving and moving forward across a range of degrees and industries.

CYLP is proud to continue walking alongside our students throughout their tertiary journey, creating spaces for connection, support and encouragement.

πŸ“š CYLP staff member Sez recently popped in during the girls’ tutoring session at Stuartholme School (official) and was proud to see everyone working hard alongside their tutors as they prepared for upcoming assessments and exams.

Sez also stayed for dinner, creating a great opportunity to sit down, catch up and hear about everything happening in school and boarding.

It was wonderful to see the girls focused, supported and making the most of their study time. ✨
