Although it is a relatively new writers group YAAWIN (Young and Adult Adventurous Writers in the North) is making big differences in the lives of its members. Embracing all genres and authors from all walks of life YAAWIN provides a fun encouraging environment. With guest speakers on various topics that are aimed at helping their members get published, YAAWIN also utilizes fun word games and exerc
ises to improve writing quality. YAAWIN’s cofounders wanted to create a group that had fun while learning and improving. They also wanted to bring all of Cairns and the surrounding areas authors, clubs, editors and publishers together. They believe in sharing and connecting and giving everyone a voice. This inclusive way of thinking has attracted young and older members, poets, novelists, song writers and play writes. Because they are focused on each person succeeding and working towards publication they also provide tools such as character development, plot creation and anything else you can think of. YAAWIN’s mission is to empower writers and create opportunities for writers to be published within the literary world. The Anthology is one such opportunity, another way is to connect members with a network of like minded people and others in their field of interest. Learning from people who are already successful and networking with those in the industry are invaluable experiences. YAAWIN currently has a Reviews by YAAWIN website https://yaawinreviews.wordpress.com/ that reviews several local plays and a book. There will be new additions to this page over time so if you are looking for a good read or a good night out, even if you are a theatre company that would like YAAWIN to review your production, head to the above website or [email protected]
If you are interested in joining or checking them out feel free to contact YAAWIN or come along to one of their meetings held every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at Arc Disability Services 92-94 Little st Manunda.
