Cape York Partnership

Cape York Partnership Cape York Partnership is an Indigenous policy reform and leadership organisation dedicated to empowering Cape York Indigenous people.

Cape York Partnership pursues Indigenous empowerment. The long hand of government intervention in the lives of Indigenous people has too often smothered Indigenous initiative, leadership and responsibility. Cape York Partnership is an Indigenous organisation that has stood up to lead a comprehensive reform agenda to turn this on its head. We want to ensure that Indigenous rights and responsibility

exist in proper balance, and Indigenous people are truly enabled to be the masters of their own exciting destinies. Cape York Partnership believes economic engagement is central to individual and social wellbeing. To that end, we partner with governments, corporates and philanthropists to encourage the emergence of a prosperous yet distinctly Indigenous people, whose children can orbit between communities and the Australian and global world and enjoy the best of both. Our touchstone is our partnership with individuals, families and communities as they strive for lives of value, freedom and prosperity. We believe in the potential of all people. We place our children’s rights to a better future at the forefront. Above all, Cape York Partnership takes, and expects from our partners, responsibility for leading positive change. The guiding light of Cape York Partnership is the Cape York Agenda. The aspirations of Cape York people became the Cape York Agenda:
• Rebuild social norms
• Restore Indigenous authority
• Address the welfare pedestal through changing the incentive
• Support engagement in the real economy
• Move from welfare housing to home ownership
• Enable children to make full use of their talents, creativity and to enjoy the best of both worlds

Behind the shelves at CEQ 📦

Recently, Years 10 to 12 students from Djarragun College had the chance to see how CEQ keeps communities across Cape York and the Torres Strait stocked and connected.

During their visit to Community Enterprise Queensland (CEQ) head office, warehouse and distribution centre in Gimuy (Cairns), students explored the many moving parts behind IBIS and ABIS stores and learned about career opportunities in retail, logistics, procurement and administration.

Hearing directly from CEQ staff gave students valuable insight into the teamwork, systems and people that keep daily operations running across the region.

Experiences like this help young people build confidence, explore future pathways and make meaningful connections with employers.

A big thank you to CEQ COO Fred Gela and the CEQ team for welcoming students and sharing your knowledge and experience.

🎨 Celebrating the creativity of our Cape York Leaders Program student Ofiliah from The Rockhampton Grammar School.

Ofiliah, who is in Year 12, has created a beautiful artwork that reflects her talent, culture and creativity.

We are proud to see our students expressing themselves through art and continuing to grow in confidence.

Well done, Ofiliah. A stunning piece and something to be very proud of. 👏

Big project, strong crew 💪🏾

Our Bama Services team has been on site at Thyme Lifestyle Resort in Kewarra Beach, supporting a major residential development through landscape construction, planting, cleaning and site support.

The scope includes a 140 metre block wall for the entryway, rendered and painted to 2 metres high, a letterbox pavilion with Porphyry stone features, an aluminium sliding gate and around 4,500 plants across the front section of the site.

Our cleaning crew also stepped in to complete urgent cleaning ahead of a major client walkthrough, helping present the homes at their best when it mattered most.

It has been an all-hands-on-deck effort and a great example of our capability, reliability and pride in delivering quality work.

Great work by the crew.

Many of our young people finish school only to face low expectations, limited opportunities and no clear way forward. This is how promising young lives can slip towards disengagement, welfare and worse.

School to Jobs is changing that by connecting young people with real career opportunities, training, mentoring and employer networks.

In 2025, School to Jobs supported 117 young people, helped 52 move into employment or further education and partnered with 23 employers. But there is still more to do. Without secure funding, too many young people will continue to slip through the gap between school and work.

Please make a tax-deductible donation before 30 June and help more young people take their next step.

“When government meets individual responsibility with guaranteed opportunities, families can build capability. And that’s going to create the change.”

Our Cape York Institute for Policy and Leadership CEO Kirsty Davis spoke with Joe O’Brien yesterday on ABC News following the release of Queensland’s child safety inquiry report, which made 52 recommendations to address serious failures across the system.

Kirsty said the report confirms what Cape York leaders have been saying for decades: Queensland must shift its focus to primary prevention, parental responsibility and community-led reform.

She highlighted the Family Responsibilities Commission as a proven Indigenous-led model that brings local leaders, families, government and services together to restore responsibility, strengthen homes and keep children safe.

Kelly is engineering her future ⚙️✨

Our Cape York Girl Academy student Kelly is building skills for the future through her Certificate II in Engineering.

From hands-on workshop experience to classroom learning, Kelly is gaining confidence, practical knowledge and exploring new pathways for what comes next.

Programs like this create opportunities for young women to step into industries where their ideas, strengths and leadership are needed.

At Girl Academy, it is about more than gaining qualifications. It is about backing young women to believe in themselves, grow their capabilities and choose the future they want for themselves, their families and their communities.

Keep up the great work, Kelly 💛

For 75% of our new students, a Ngak Min health checkup is their first in well over a year. It's a gap we are working to close, but we need your help.

Ngak Min Health provides culturally responsive care for students at Djarragun College and Cape York Girl Academy. Preventive care is critical because it helps identify health issues early, before they become chronic. Without secure funding, too many young people will slip through the gaps.

This EOFY, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help bring this care to more young people.

Another great visit with our Cape York Leaders Program students at Clayfield College as we head into the cooler months. 💙

It was a valuable opportunity to check in, see how everyone is settling into school and boarding life, and help students prepare for their winter uniform requirements for the term ahead.

We are always proud to see our students continuing to grow, stay engaged and represent their families and communities with pride.

From Tully to Mossman, our Bama Services crew continues to deliver quality landscaping and construction work across Far North Queensland. 👏

We currently have a team on site in Mossman, delivering a project that includes 250 metres of timber fencing and 60 metres of concrete sleeper retaining walls.

It is another strong example of Bama Services’ capability in civil and landscaping works, while creating meaningful employment pathways and building skills for our people.

Great work by the crew as they bring this project to life.

"The rock who steadied us in the storm."

What a magnificent permanent tribute unveiled to honour one of the greatest Indigenous leaders of the modern era: Dr. Lowitja O’Donoghue AC CBE DSG.

At the base of this magnificent statue, the words of our founder, Noel Pearson, are permanently etched into history. This powerful tribute originates from Pearson’s seminal 2012 Lowitja O’Donoghue Oration, where he spoke of her unparalleled fortitude. He rightfully remembered her as “ our greatest leader of the modern era”, and a “leader’s leader”, the fierce, steady anchor who guided Indigenous Australians through the complex political and social upheavals of native title negotiations and self-determination.

Dr. O’Donoghue’s life was defined by an extraordinary capacity to bridge divides. As Noel Pearson captured so brilliantly in his oration, she possessed a rare and potent leadership style, one that combined "toughness and tenderness in perfect symbiosis." She was never afraid to sit at the toughest tables, tackle the most adversarial arguments, or hold open the doors of opportunity for the generations walking behind her.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the State of South Australia for rightfully honouring this impressive Australian leader. By elevating her legacy in the public square, SA ensures that her moral clarity, courage, and lifetime of service will continue to inspire future decision-makers.
Dr. Lowitja O’Donoghue changed the river of Australian history. May we continue to use our voices to carry her fearless legacy forward.
