It’s been fantastic chatting with so many people over the last couple of days at Cairns Central Shopping Centre.

From nervous new learner drivers taking their first steps towards independence, to parents and carers looking for support, community organisations seeking pathways for their clients, and local people interested in becoming volunteers — thank you for stopping by and sharing your stories with us.

The Time2Drive Learner Driver Mentor Program is about much more than helping people get a licence. It’s about building confidence, creating opportunities, connecting communities, and making our roads safer for everyone.

We’re also proud to be supported by an incredible community of volunteers, local businesses, and partner organisations who help make this program possible.

We’re still here for the rest of today, so if you haven’t visited yet, come and say hello. Find out how the program works, meet the team, learn about volunteering, and discover how we’re helping create safer, more confident drivers across Far North Queensland — one learner at a time.

SUNDAY 24 MAY — YELLOW RIDE 💛🏍️

Today we recognise the Yellow Ride and remember the lives lost on Australian roads.

Whether you ride, drive, supervise, walk, or cycle — road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

At Time2Drive, we see every day how important safe driving education, patience, and community support are in helping build safer road users for the future.

Please take a moment today to reflect, drive carefully, and look out for one another on the roads.

Because every road death leaves family, friends, and communities forever changed.

SATURDAY 23 MAY — DRIVE SAFELY ON REGIONAL ROADS 🌾🚙

Far North Queensland roads can change quickly — long distances, wildlife, fatigue, wet weather, road trains, and higher-speed roads all increase risk.

Many Time2Drive learners build experience driving on regional and outer suburban roads with the support of Volunteer mentors helping them safely develop confidence and decision-making skills.

If you’re travelling this weekend:
💛 slow down to suit conditions
💛 take regular breaks
💛 watch for wildlife
💛 avoid driving tired
💛 be patient when overtaking learner drivers and slower vehicles

Everyone deserves to get home safely.

FRIDAY 22 MAY — PLAN YOUR JOURNEY 🛣️

Safe driving starts before you even turn the key.

Planning ahead helps reduce stress, fatigue, distractions, and risky decisions on the road.

Before you head off:
🚗 check your route
🚗 allow extra travel time
🚗 avoid rushing
🚗 check weather and road conditions
🚗 make sure you’re rested and ready to drive

For learner drivers, planning is also part of building confidence — choosing suitable routes and conditions can make every supervised drive safer and more productive.

A little preparation can make a big difference.

THURSDAY 21 MAY — REFRESH YOUR ROAD RULES KNOWLEDGE 📚🚗

Road rules change. Habits creep in. Even experienced drivers can forget the basics over time.

For learner drivers, consistency matters — and the example experienced drivers set behind the wheel matters even more.

National Road Safety Week is a great reminder to refresh your road rules knowledge:
✅ roundabouts
✅ indicating correctly
✅ school zones
✅ safe following distances
✅ mobile phone laws
✅ giving space to cyclists and pedestrians

At Time2Drive, safe driving conversations happen every day during supervised drives — helping learner drivers build strong lifelong habits from the beginning.

Good drivers never stop learning.

WEDNESDAY 20 MAY — TRAVEL THE ROAD TO KINDNESS 💛

Road safety isn’t just about rules. It’s also about how we treat each other.

A wave.
A little patience.
Letting someone merge.
Giving a learner driver time at the lights.

Kindness reduces stress, improves decision-making, and helps make the roads safer for everybody.

Time2Drive Volunteers don’t just help people gain hours — they help build confidence in a supportive, encouraging environment.

A kinder road culture starts with all of us.

TUESDAY 19 MAY — BE MINDFUL OF YOUNG PEOPLE ON OUR ROADS 🚸

Young drivers are still learning to read traffic, manage distractions, and build confidence behind the wheel.

A little extra patience from experienced drivers can make a huge difference.

At Time2Drive, our Volunteers help learner drivers gain safe supervised driving experience in real traffic conditions — building skills, confidence, and safer habits for life.

If you see a learner driver:
💛 give them space
💛 avoid aggressive driving
💛 remember you were once learning too

Safe young drivers don’t happen by accident — communities help create them.
