Cairns City Kennel Club The Cairns City Kennel Club is the largest all breeds and dog sports dog club in Queensland. Over time the dog is more likely to repeat the behaviour.

Our dog obedience training classes are run by a dedicated team of club members who have extensive experience in dog training and actively participate in local, State and National events. Gain insights and expert level advice on training, behaviour, breeds and general canine care and welfare. At the core of our dog obedience training classes is the focus on positive reinforcement training technique

s. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, owners learn how to use praise and/or treats to reward your dog when they demonstrate a desired behaviour. 🐾 Sunday Scent Work is done and dusted for the day! 🐾
Well done to all our competitors, and a huge thank you to our volunteer timers and stewards for helping make the day run so smoothly. We couldn't do it without you!

We hope to see everyone back at our next Scent Work event in July.

Saturday Sunshine 🌞

How good is winter in Far North Queensland?

Monty and Lottie certainly made the most of the early morning sunshine ☀️, with Kuranda turning on a beautiful crisp morning 🌄 for our Exterior Scent Work Trial today.

It was a fantastic morning of scent work, with competitors and their canine teammates putting their noses to work and enjoying the wonderful FNQ weather. 🐾👃

Thank you to everyone who attended, competed, volunteered, and helped make the trial such a success.

Judging experience: 4 years

Karen’s courses are fast and flowy, with technical elements that allow for layering and distance handling. She’s proud to represent the QLD judging team — and will be competing too!

She currently competes with Luna, a 7-year-old Border Collie in Excellent classes, and Charm, a 3-year-old Koolie in Novice.

Brisbane Bound – Judge Tricia Williams 🐾

One of our very own, Tricia Williams, is heading to Brisbane for the 2026 Agility Nationals as part of the judging panel, and we couldn't be prouder!

⏱ Judging Experience • 4 years Agility Judging
• 11 years Obedience Judging

Tricia enjoys designing large, flowing courses with multiple handling options, giving teams the opportunity to work together creatively and confidently. She is excited to be judging alongside an outstanding national and international panel and is looking forward to watching some of the country's best dog and handler combinations take to the ring.

At home, Tricia shares her life with three working-line Border Collies: 🐾 Cue (14 years young)
🐾 Trifecta (7)
🐾 Infinity (2) – her "baby girl"

While agility is their first love, the team also competes in obedience, rally and tricks, showcasing the versatility and partnership that make dog sports so rewarding.

✨ What always makes her smile? "Watching a dog and handler connect, read each other, and work in true harmony — it's simply magic."

Brisbane Bound for Nationals! 🐾

Wayne will be a familiar face to many as one of our long-time instructors and maintenance men here at the CCKC.

He will be heading to the National Championships with Jimmy the Jack Russell, who is an old hand at travelling to Brisbane after competing at the State Titles over the past six years. This year, Jimmy will be showing the ropes to his little sister Lucy as she embarks on her own Nationals adventure.

We wish Wayne, Jimmy and Lucy all the very best for their big trip. Travel safely, have fun, and may there be plenty of clear rounds and qualifying passes along the way!

Heading south to the Agility National Championships in Brisbane is member of the Cairns Crew and the Queensland Team, our very own agility instructor Kayla James and her super dog Impulse!

After countless hours of training, dedication, and teamwork, we are proud to see them representing our club and Queensland on the national stage.
