It All Started in 2004…

Before the Queensland Heritage Rally became the major state-wide gathering it is today, there was simply an idea.

In April 2003, Callide Dawson Machinery Preservation Club Inc. member Craig Cooper presented a proposal to his Club - a Queensland-based machinery rally that would bring clubs and enthusiasts from across the State together during the years between the National Historical Machinery Association Rallies.

The vision was simple:

Give Queensland's machinery preservation community a major event of its own.

An event where clubs could bring their tractors, engines, trucks, machinery, collectables and memorabilia to a larger audience — without having to travel thousands of kilometres south to attend a national rally.

The proposal was unanimously supported.

And the idea quickly gathered momentum.

📨 In May 2003, the Club contacted machinery and heritage organisations throughout Queensland, inviting them to become involved in establishing a Steering Committee.

Then, in July 2003, representatives from clubs across Queensland gathered at the Old Wheels in Motion Rally in Biloela.

The response was overwhelming.

Delegates unanimously endorsed the proposal and agreed that the Callide Dawson Machinery Preservation Club Inc. would host the inaugural Queensland Heritage Rally in July 2004.

And so, a new chapter in Queensland's machinery preservation story began.

From that first idea in 2003…

➡️ to the rallies that followed
➡️ and now to the 11th Queensland Heritage Rally in 2026

The QHR has grown into a celebration of machinery, history, friendship and the people who keep our mechanical heritage alive.

22 years later, the story continues…
