Art is so good for mental health. Love what Metro North Health are doing here!

TPCH Recreation Officer Adam is on a roll helping consumers in the Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit (SMHRU), using painting and decorating of skateboard decks to portray their stories. 🛹🎨

“I really encouraged them to use words and images on the decks that are meaningful to them, and the clients that came down, they really got involved in it, really enjoyed what they have done,” Adam said, reflecting on the unique activity.

“I enjoy looking after the clients, working out what their interests are and how I can tap into that to make their stay here a lot more pleasant and comfortable.

“It also giving them skills and introducing new things that hopefully help them move forward in their lives.”

The skateboards will be mounted in the SMHRU front office foyer so everyone can see and appreciate the creativity of our consumers. 🤩

Thanks to Royal Life Saving Society Queensland Inc RTO 5431 and our CAMS (Community Action for a Multicultural Society) team, you are invited to a FREE workshop including valuable information and techniques to help you understand various water environments, signage, water safety and survival techniques, and rescue techniques.

If you love putting a smile on the face of someone in need, volunteering with us is a great opportunity!

We need volunteers for many things including gardening, helping people fill in forms, teaching basic computer skills, helping on event days and many other duties.

You can commit to 4 hours per week or more, your skills and talents will be recognised, you get to work with a friendly team and you will be making a difference to less advantaged people in the community.

You must have or be eligible for a Bluecard.
