She limped toward me on three legs — thin, trembling, desperate — and instead of running, she pressed her face into my hand as if begging, “Don’t leave me.”
I took her home, expecting fear, but she stayed glued to me, trusting instantly in a way that broke my heart.
Then one morning, she paced at the door, insisting I follow her. She led me to a pile of leaves… and that’s where I found them — her tiny, starving kittens, waiting for a mother who could barely stand.
She hadn’t just chosen me for herself.
She chose me to save her babies too.

We have three incredible reasons to celebrate this holiday season! 🦁✨
We’re thrilled to share that Amirah, a 9-year-old African lioness, has welcomed three healthy cubs born Nov. 23 and 24. As a first-time mom, she has been wonderfully calm, attentive and nurturing, spending her days bonding closely with her little ones in a cozy, quiet den.
African lions are vulnerable to extinction and endangered in some regions due to habitat loss, declining prey, disease and human-wildlife conflict. Welcoming these cubs is not only heartwarming — it’s a meaningful milestone in the Detroit Zoo’s commitment to conservation and the future of this iconic species.
For now, Amirah and her cubs will remain in their den, out of public view, while they continue to grow and thrive. The rest of the pride — dad Kalu and aunt Asha — may or may not choose to spend time in their outdoor habitat during this period. We anticipate the cubs will be visible to guests in a few months, once they’re more mobile and ready to explore larger spaces.
A fourth cub, born significantly later than the others, did not survive. While this is a natural part of life for many wild species, we remain grateful that Amirah and her three cubs are doing well.
We can’t wait to share more updates, photos and milestones as this joyful new chapter unfolds!

Simba’s life began in cruelty — a young lion used for tourist photos, his hind legs deliberately broken so he could never run, never escape. When rescuers found him, he was emaciated, trembling, and unable to stand, yet a spark of life still flickered in his eyes. Months of surgeries, gentle care, and patient rehabilitation slowly rebuilt his body and his trust. Step by step, Simba learned to walk again, transforming from a victim of exploitation into a symbol of resilience. His story exposes the dark reality of wildlife tourism — but also the healing power of compassion.

This is K9 Jethro—a loyal, fearless police dog who gave everything last night.
In the line of duty, he was struck by three bullets while protecting his officer and his community.
Right now, Jethro is in surgery, fighting with every ounce of strength he has. Each breath he takes is a reminder of the bravery, sacrifice, and heart these K-9 heroes carry into every mission.
Jethro isn’t “just a dog.”
He’s a guardian.
A partner.
A hero wrapped in fur and courage.
As he battles to pull through, please keep this incredible Blue Hero in your thoughts and prayers. His loyalty has never wavered—and now he deserves all the love, hope, and support we can send his way. 🐾💙

In the last 24 hours I have been called unprofessional, a "mean and cruel excuse for a human," and lacking in empathy for the mice I purchase for my critters. For real. Someone said that.
I don't think I could be more empathetic, but I *could* be more tolerant of bu****it, mansplaining, comments about feeding wildlife, comments about my foxes like, "You play with 'em, I'll kill and skin 'em," and just the general ugliness that has become so prevalent in the world today.
But I probably won't be able to pull that off. So, fair warning! And for those of you who are just wonderful and engaged and supportive, just know how much I appreciate you and enjoy interacting with you!
And thanks to Marley for having the compassion to drive across town to bring me this poor squirrel today. It didn't make it.😢

Mailman walks up to a house, and realizes a wolf is standing beside him.
In rural Montana, a mailman was stuffing letters into the box when he heard slow breathing behind him. He looked down, and there it was.A wild wolf, inches from his leg, staring at him like he was on the menu.
He dropped the mail and SPRINTED off the porch. The Ring cam caught every second, the leap, the stumble, the absolute panic.
Neighbors rushed out when they heard the commotion, and thankfully the wolf didn’t chase.
Local wildlife experts said the wolf wasn’t being aggressive at all, he had simply caught a scent.
Later, the mailman admitted the truth: “Turns out he didn’t want me… he wanted the salami I forgot in my back pocket.”
He’s still delivering on that route, but now he double-checks his pockets before stepping out of the truck.

"🤯 The £30k Miracle: Starving Lioness Mary and Cubs Rescued from World’s ‘Saddest Zoo’! 🦁💸
A pride of lions, including Mary and her two cubs, suffered years of neglect in tiny, filthy cages at a defunct private zoo, surviving only on meager scraps provided by an elderly couple. An urgent news report sparked a global outpouring of support!
£30,000 in donations was raised almost instantly, funding their rescue and relocation to a vast, purpose-built enclosure in the Caucasus Mountains. Mary, once severely malnourished, has gained 100 pounds and a healthy coat!
Their journey continues: rescuers need £200,000 more to build a final, permanent sanctuary for them in the UK. This incredible rescue is a testament to the power of community compassion!

Now we have a very special girl to introduce you too, with a very sad story 💔
Our first grey pup of the season! Meet Fizzy Pop ❤️
She was found on the beach being harassed by a dog. With bite wounds to her head, leaving her head very swollen. We assume her mum had abandoned her due to the dog attack. We weren’t sure she was going to make it at first. Please remember to have dogs on leads around wildlife, for the safety of your dogs and also wildlife. A big thanks to Friends of Horsey Seals for rescuing her and bringing her in.

The world is mourning the loss of a legendary elephant known for having some of the largest tusks ever recorded. Each weighing over 100 pounds, his tusks symbolized not only his incredible presence but also the beauty and strength of Africa’s wildlife. Thanks to dedicated conservation efforts, he lived a long, peaceful life despite the threats faced by elephants in the wild.
For decades, he thrived in his natural habitat, overcoming challenges such as poaching pressures and habitat loss. His calm nature and majestic stature left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to see him. His passing—believed to be from natural causes—marks the end of an era and a profound loss for Africa’s natural heritage.
Conservationists and animal lovers around the world are reflecting on his life and legacy. His story continues to inspire ongoing efforts to protect elephants and other endangered species. His memory reminds us that the greatest tribute we can offer is a renewed commitment to safeguarding the planet’s most vulnerable wildlife.

The Elephant of Etosha: A Silent Hero Who Walked Through Fire
In Namibia’s Etosha National Park, a lone bull elephant faced a creeping wildfire that left his ears scorched, trunk charred, and body gravely burned. Despite the agony, he moved with determination, embodying resilience and quiet courage.
When wildlife vets reached him, the damage was catastrophic. Though his fight could not be won, his journey became a powerful symbol — highlighting the increasing threats of climate change, habitat loss, and wildfires to wildlife across Africa.
His story reminds us that even the strongest animals are vulnerable, and that conservation, rapid response, and protection of natural corridors are urgent.
