Public Act Theatre

Public Act Theatre Public Act Theatre was established in 2015 with support from the Byron Bay Community Centre. We encourage awareness of local social issues through theatre.

We love theatre. We care about people. We are fortunate enough to have an incredible tool at our disposal and we believe that we have a responsibility to use it. In 2015 after many fortunate years working with some of the worlds leading applied and social theatre practitioners, founder Jo Franklin recognised an opportunity to engage with the Northern Rivers communities. Collaborating with two well

know local theatre practitioners Frauke Huhn (Cicade) and Philippa Williams (Theatre of Life), Public Act Theatre went into development. We are dedicated to cultivating social dialogue and community empowerment through theatre making and collaboration. Public Act operates within a social arts model to promote social equality, deepen social connection, and to share in the process of creating change within a community. We believe that through the practices of applied theatre and social arts, together with local community service partners we can provide pathways for a more connected community.

Our Story
