Following various attempts to clarify with Australia Post where postal delivery to a property is available in and around Buxton, Australia Post have advised that "๐‘“๐‘œ๐‘™๐‘™๐‘œ๐‘ค๐‘–๐‘›๐‘” ๐‘Ž๐‘› ๐‘–๐‘›๐‘ก๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘›๐‘Ž๐‘™ ๐‘Ž๐‘ ๐‘ ๐‘’๐‘ ๐‘ ๐‘š๐‘’๐‘›๐‘ก, ๐ด๐‘ข๐‘ ๐‘ก๐‘Ÿ๐‘Ž๐‘™๐‘–๐‘Ž ๐‘ƒ๐‘œ๐‘ ๐‘ก ๐‘ค๐‘–๐‘™๐‘™ ๐‘–๐‘›๐‘ก๐‘Ÿ๐‘œ๐‘‘๐‘ข๐‘๐‘’ ๐‘Ž ๐‘š๐‘Ž๐‘–๐‘™ ๐‘‘๐‘’๐‘™๐‘–๐‘ฃ๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘ฆ ๐‘ ๐‘’๐‘Ÿ๐‘ฃ๐‘–๐‘๐‘’ ๐‘“๐‘œ๐‘Ÿ ๐‘Ÿ๐‘’๐‘ ๐‘–๐‘‘๐‘’๐‘›๐‘ก๐‘  ๐‘–๐‘› ๐ต๐‘ข๐‘ฅ๐‘ก๐‘œ๐‘›, ๐‘๐‘œ๐‘š๐‘š๐‘’๐‘›๐‘๐‘–๐‘›๐‘” ๐‘œ๐‘› ๐‘€๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘‘๐‘Ž๐‘ฆ, 20 ๐ฝ๐‘ข๐‘™๐‘ฆ 202 ". This advice was received through the office of Member for Indi, Dr Helen Haines MP, following a request from the BPA for help with clarifying where delivery to the property was possible in Buxton. We are grateful to her staff who have been very helpful.

Initially we simply requested that the relevant Delivery Manager make contact to discuss the current delivery area in an attempt to answer questions from BPA members based around historical myths that, to be frank, simply didn't make sense. Those attempts to deal direct with Australia Post and simply obtain a map of the delivery area became frustrated so we sought help from our Federal Member of Parliament

In response to their initial requests to Australia Post on our behalf, Helen's office responded to say "[we] have been informed by our Australia Post liaison that due to legal reasons (privacy namely) they are unable to release specific information on the areas in Buxton where street delivery is available. They have however, agreed to a delivery classification and review of services in Buxton, on behalf of the Progress Association. That seems to be the best way to get the information you are seeking.

[We] have been advised that the Delivery Change Request team has received the review application. They will provide a further update directly to you within the next eight weeks".

In response we then asked Helen's office to address two further issues to Australia Post: ๐ฐ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐œ๐ญ ๐ฐ๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฌ๐š๐ฅ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž ๐‹๐๐Ž ๐ก๐š๐ฏ๐ž ๐จ๐ง ๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ž๐ฅ ๐๐ž๐ฅ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ข๐ง ๐š๐ง๐ ๐š๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ญ๐จ๐ง, and ๐ฐ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ฐ๐š๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ซ๐ž-๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐  ๐š ๐‹๐๐Ž ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ญ๐จ๐ง. In their advice, Helen's office stressed that "it is also important to note that all residents will be notified in the coming weeks and provided with guidance on letterbox installation to support the rollout of this service".

We are yet to hear directly from the relevant Delivery Manager or the Delivery Change Request team but welcome this news that improved postal delivery services are heading our way from mid July. Unfortunately, we are unclear as to the extent of the area involved - it might be just the township but hopefully further afield. Thanks also to those community members who submitted requests to AusPost seeking confirmation as to the delivery status at their properties.

In the meantime, we have been promised that the Post Box will be relocated and reactivated ahead of the actual post-office opening.

BPA secures $16k Grant for Buxton CFA

In yet another example of Buxton being a connected and resilient Community, today we were advised by FRRR (the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal) that our grant application in support of the Buxton C.F.A has been successful. Our application aims to support health and wellbeing and help improve response times by providing additional breathing apparatus to our local fire brigade.

Through the generous support of the Sidney Myer Fund, FRRR has allocated just over $16,000 to help us procure two additional Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus sets for Buxton Tanker 2 along with extra portable radios and other ancillary equipment. This will enable the brigade to fit out their new Tanker with this vital safety equipment. A further $2,000 will be sought from the Buxton 3711 Community Fund with the Brigade advising it will fund the balance of the overall project costs from recent donations.

BPA will now work with the brigade and CFA District 12 to procure this community-funded equipment. Our application to FRRR was supported by CFA, local community groups, the Alexandra Group of CFA Brigades, along with the other Triangle Brigades.

We thank everyone who helped us secure this important grant for our volunteer firefighters.

Plumbing Works at Buxton Reserve

The front parking area out front of the toilet block at the Buxton Recreation Reserve is currently closed while the downpipes are plumbed out to the street. We are grateful to Murrindindi Shire Council for these improvements to this very busy facility. This will stop the water pooling outside the toilets.

Access to the toilets is still possible on the opposite side from the reserve side. Parking is available part the toilet block. The works should only take a couple of days.

Community Giving Strong in the Triangle

Giving back to community was the strong theme of three presentations made at the Marysville Market Inc this morning.

The last market before the winter break was the stage for both the Narbeview Wildlife Shelter Incorporated and the Buxton Progress Association to be recognised with financial contributions from the market committee. A donation of $350 was made to help Narbeview to provide continued care for injured wildlife and $1,000 was gifted to the BPAโ€™s Buxton Memorial Hall Maintenance Appeal. The morning was also an opportunity for the Buxton Progress Association to recognise a significant donation to the Hall appeal by the Lions Club of Marysville & District.

In making the two presentations by the market committee, Robert van der Gragt spoke about the role of the market in returning the proceeds from the market to the local community saying โ€œas a not-for-profit community group it is important for us to give back to the communityโ€. Committee member, Hannah Kasch, said "the market is an opportunity for local community groups to raise funds and to provide a venue for showcasing local makers and creators".

Following the presentations by the market committee, a separate presentation was made to the BPA by Marysville & District Lions Club President, Neil Fookes. The Lions Club also made a contribution of $1,000 to the Buxton Hallโ€™s maintenance appeal. โ€œBuxton is an important part of the Triangle and the Lions Club is proud to support the BPAโ€™s efforts to ensure this local facility is preserved for future generationsโ€, Neil said. The appeal has a target of $12,000 which was intended to not just repaint the outside of the hall but raise some additional funds for other works. โ€œWith a new garden established at the rear of the hall, following the creation of the rear carpark by Murrindindi Shire Council, we have arranged for an additional tap to be installed which the appeal will also fundโ€, Willie explained. Any excess funds held will be directed to the Hall Maintenance Account to help with future maintenance.

We also acknowledge support from Community Bank Dandenong Ranges and Professionals Murrindindi which has underpinned the Hall's maintenance appeal.

Joint Discussion on Open Spaces

This afternoon members of the Buxton Open Spaces Committee met with Murrindindi Shire Council's Manager for Community Wellbeing, Stuart Coller to discuss potential improvements to the tennis courts at the Buxton Recreation Reserve. In addition, a wider discussion took place regarding a wider ranging discussion on developing a strategy for future development of under utilised open space areas around the township and its environs.

Some potential improvements at the tennis courts include cleaning the surface (which was last pressure washed in 2014), preventing grass from growing in expansion cuts (fill with epoxy), installation of a disabled access by installing a new entry gate around the corner from present gate, and repainting the existing lines as well as adding lines for pickleball. The sagging tennis court net was adjusted to regulation height.

Following discussions at the main Reserve, Stuart was shown the undeveloped Waters Estate reserve, which extends from the end of Waters Place through to Steavenson Road. Due to the Little Steavenson River cutting through the reserve in two places, the reserve comprises three discrete parcels of land; only one of which is actively maintained by Council. For some time now, BPA has been advocating for a Community consultation be initiated to determine the future use and management of this unnamed Reserve.

Our next step will be to propose a scope of work to improve the tennis courts to Council, work with Council to develop costs and identify potential funding sources, and work together to implement things.

Members of the BOSC have been talking to people using the tennis courts in recent times, to get input to what users think about the courts. We would love to get more input...

The hall is the only community-owned gathering place in Buxton and is managed by the BPA on behalf of the Buxton community. The need to maintain the hall for future generations was identified during the Community Consultation conducted by the BPA in 2023.

The Buxton Memorial Hall was extensively refurbished in 2010 after the Black Saturday fires โ€“ more than 15 years ago. Last year it was found to be in urgent need of the exterior painted surfaces being cleaned down and repainted. The appeal was initiated, primarily, to enable the Committee to have the outside of the hall repainted. The community's generousity has enabled the painting to be completed without having to draw on the hall's limited invested funds. We are grateful to Chris at Buxton based C Reed Painting & Decorating for completing the works ahead of winter.

Being a DEECA Crown Reserve, the building and grounds are the responsibility of the community with limited support from Council and Government. Last year Murrindindi Shire Council funded the establishment of the much needed rear carpark including disability compliant access between the hall and the new carpark, while DEECA funded additional safety related improvements to the building and grounds. By opting for a public appeal, the Committee of Management aims to keep user charges as low as possible.

Every dollar donated to the appeal will go to the hall repainting project with access funds being added to the Hall's maintenance term deposit. The term deposit holds preserved funds set aside for future maintenance, emergency works and other unforeseen events that might arise.

In addition to the Community Bank contribution, the appeal has been assisted by the provision of the display board, located outside the hall, showing how much has been raised โ€“ thanks to generous support from the Professionals Murrindindi who are located in Marysville.

People or organisations wishing to support the appeal can donate by using the QR code or simply going to buxtonprogress.org.au/donate and using the account details for the Buxton Progress Association Fundraising account.

Primary School commemorates Anzac

Buxton Primary School students have commemorated Anzac Day today with what has become a Buxton tradition with planting of poppies at the base of the flagpoles outside the Buxton Memorial Hall. The flagpoles form part of the reflective garden which was established through funding from the Federal Government's Saluting Their Service grant program a number of years ago.

The idea of planting poppies came from Buxton resident and returned serviceman Carmel Denham, who served in on USNS Comfort as part of an Australian medical detachment during the first Gulf War. Carmel is a member of the Returned Nurses RSL Sub-Branch and an associate member of the Maryville RSL.

School principal Sarah Irving thanked Carmel for the beautiful poppies saying "we love this tradition you have created for us. We have just planted them and had our minute silence".

Some of the students will participate in the Marysville RSL march and service on Saturday. The match steps off at 11:30am with the service following at the cenotaph afterwards.

Thank You and a Bit of an Apology

Thanks to everyone who continues to support the Buxton 3711 Community Fund through dropping their eligible CDS containers at the donation point behind the Buxton C.F.A station.

By yesterday afternoon the crate was chock-a-block full of aluminium cans (and the odd bottle or two). With a busy weekend with our garden working bee on Saturday, the Highball Car Rally at Erindale on Sunday, and brigade members doing a training course or attending meetings, we thought there would be enough room to last the weekend. Well, one very generous drop-off on Sunday morning put paid to that... a fantastic donation but it virtually filled the crate; we even got a wave to the security camera. ๐Ÿคฃ

Then another fantastic drop-off happened later in the day which left the crate full as the proverbial Mallee Bull. Thanks to the doner for the extra effort to force everything in the crate so cans didn't get blown out.

A fantastic problem to have...

One of the brigade members completed their Breathing Apparatus skills maintenance this morning and emptied the crate for us while chewing up a cylinder of air. Win- Win.

Autumn Garden Working Bee Wraps Up

With a freshly repainted hall as a backdrop, the gardens around the Buxton Memorial Hall reserve are looking great - thanks to the efforts of our community gardeners.

The new garden beds along, the path between the hall and community parking area constructed last year by Murrindindi Shire Council, were planted out with a mix of native plants comprising Correa Pulchella Orange Glow, Pycnosorus Globosus, and Callistemon Viminalis - Little John. Once laid out by our garden guru Jenny, the new plants were lovingly popped in to the ground and watered in.

In the meantime, the other intrepid helpers finished off weeding the garden beds around the front which Helen tidied everything up afterwards with her trusty blower.

We arrange four working bees each year and have a limited budget that is allocated to a paid gardener who is engaged to keep things looking tidy between the working bee events.

Thanks to Jenny & Alan, Maureen & Andy, Marj & Rob, Robert, Peter, Tracey and her visitor who popped along to help, Leanne and Paul.
