Ghana’s breathtaking beaches are turning into graveyards for fast fashion.
Every week, 15 million pieces of cheap, low-quality clothing—mostly from the UK, US, and Europe—flood the country.
Nearly half are unusable and end up dumped on shores, rivers, and wetlands.

Over time, waves twist these synthetic fabrics (like polyester) into rock-hard “textile stones”—toxic monuments of overproduction and corporate neglect.

Labels from;
Zara,
H&M,
Shein,
Marks & Spencer,
Asda (George),
Next
Nike
Adidas
are found among the heaps.

Greenpeace calls it “environmental injustice”—the Global North profits, while places like Ghana pay the price.

We hold the power to change this.
Buy less. Buy better. Boycott the top fast fashion offenders.
Let’s not let another coastline turn into a dumping ground. 🌍

Finally a crackdown on greenwashing.
Good old gladwrap marketing their plastic as made from 50% recycled ocean bound plastic.
What ever that means.
Turns out it was a lie anyway!

Recycling or Architecture? Why not both.

In 1964, Alfred Heineken saw waste piling up on the beaches of the Dutch Antilles—including his own beer bottles—and had a wild, visionary idea: What if beer bottles could become bricks?

Enter the WOBO—short for World Bottle. Designed with flat sides and a concave bottom, this bottle wasn’t just for drinking—it was for building.

Heineken commissioned 100,000 WOBOs to be made, even building a garden house entirely out of them. But the marketing team wasn’t thrilled. A beer bottle that could double as a wall? Too weird, too risky, too ahead of its time.

Decades later, architects and sustainability thinkers hailed it as a pioneering moment in eco-design. But despite efforts to take the idea further, including a proposed WOBO office building, it never got past the concept stage.

Still, the WOBO remains an icon—a reminder that packaging doesn’t have to end up in landfill. Sometimes, it can hold up a roof.

Wetlands are an important habitat for native fauna and flora. Climate change is seeing wetlands dry up along with man inhabiting areas as well. Educate yourself about these vital places and gain a lifelong appreciation for nature.

Did you know ⁉️ Earth is losing wetlands 3 times faster than forests. 🤯😳

Making inroads on the BIG environmental challenges of our time needs for us all to first understand some of the topics and terminology involved. 😵‍💫

Our CEO Dr Manda Page is on a mission to bridge the knowledge gap. 👩‍💻

In the fifth instalment of her explainer blog series she tackles Ramsar Wetlands. 🔗 in comments.
