GeoCatch is committed to protecting the catchment's values by focusing on the following activities:

Water Quality - GeoCatch is committed to improving water quality through protecting and improving our rivers, wetlands and drainage systems by excluding stock, undertaking strategic revegetation and implementing water sensitive urban design. GeoCatch also promotes sustainable urban and rural land management to protect the environment in the catchment. The Water Quality Improvement Plan for the Vasse Wonnerup Wetlands and Geographe Bay will direct GeoCatch's management of water quality. Biodiversity - GeoCatch actively protects the catchment's biodiversity by assisting land managers and community groups to undertake strategic revegetation projects, community education, manageing dieback, controlling w**ds and feral animals. The Peppies for Possums program is an award-winning program coordinated by GeoCatch to protect the threatened western ringtail possum. Marine and Coast - GeoCatch reduces nutrient input from the catchment and protects and improves coastal foreshore areas by implementing and assisting revegetation and coastal foreshore projects. Community - GeoCatch works with community groups, schools, agencies, farmers and individuals by assisting with funding applications, onground and technical support, providing networking opportunities and facilitating promotional events, all aimed at protecting and improving the local waterways and natural environment.

๐ŸŒฟ Help protect the Broadwater Wetlands! ๐ŸŒฟ

GeoCatch is launching a new 3-year biodiversity project focused on reducing the impacts of feral rabbits, foxes and feral cats across the Broadwater area.

Weโ€™re inviting local residents to get involved as citizen scientists to play an active role in monitoring feral animal activity and supporting future control efforts to protect native species like the Western Ringtail Possum, Quenda and Black Swan.

๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ„What a fantastic day in the paddock!๐ŸŒพโœจ

Over 20 beef, sheep and dairy farmers from across the Geographe catchment came together at GeoCatchโ€™s Perennial Pastures Workshop & Farm Walk at the Haddon family dairy in Sabina.

From the ground up, we explored what it really takes to establish perennial pastures in the South West, with plenty of practical insights along the way.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพHost farmer Garry Haddon shared his first-hand journey growing perennials, including trials of hybrid ryegrass varieties โ€” offering a smart middle ground between annual and perennial systems. Seeing his paddocks up close and hearing whatโ€™s worked (and what hasnโ€™t!) made for invaluable on the ground learning.

๐ŸŒฟLocal agronomist Graham Mussell walked us through pasture species selection, w**d control, and the all-important role of grazing management for long-term persistence.

Thanks also to Peter Clifton from South West NRM for presenting and contributing to the discussion on sustainable pasture systems in our region and the greater south west.

By the end of the day, attendees walked away with greater confidence in establishing and maintaining perennial pastures suited to their own operations.

And in true farming fashion, we wrapped up just before a welcome autumn shower! ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ

๐Ÿ‘ A big thanks to everyone who joined us and generously shared their knowledge and experience. Days like these show the power of learning together in the paddock.
