Nothing quite like night sailing, especially with a land breeze following you home. Racing back to Fremantle at 7 knots, looking forward to bringing the ship home.

Departing Albany.

It’s been an amazing and challenging week here at Albany. Reconnecting with the local community, our first daysail in years, watching strong winds develop. Today we left King George Sound to make way to our next port of call, Busselton.

We’re making our way west with a strong easterly at our back, flying along at 9 knots under sail, looking to take shelter at Hamelin Bay whilst Tropical Cyclone Narelle makes landfall to the north in Denham, and progresses towards Albany to become a Tropical Low.

Stay safe up North, and pay close attention to the BOM cyclone alerts in the coming days!

Stepping the Jibboom - October 2025

21/10/2025

1-12.OCT.25
Everything is starting to take shape this month, as the hull is brought down to bare steel for painting, and the rig team prepare for the Jibboom - the first of our beautiful timber spars to come out of the spar making team.

Little bit of talk about aligning the masts for parallel. Humans are very good at spotting inconsistencies, we have a feel for what ‘looks right’, so the angles of each individual mast absolutely matter, but they also need to go together, because that’s how they’ll be seen, straight and parallel to each other.

22-27.SEP.25
A massive week for the project and the culmination of an incredible amount of volunteer, contractor and crew hours.

Big thanks to Fremantle Foundry for fabrication and installation, and Vulcan Engineering for transport and lifting for making the week go smoothly and safely!

A lot has happened from May to now to get to where we are. Our volunteers, contractors and crew have been working tirelessly to get us back to sailing condition, and a considerable amount of work to keep us going well into the future.

23/09/2025

Massive day for the Rerig Project, with our Fore Mast ready for lifting to be fitted and welded on board.

We couldn’t have done it without all our supporter, volunteers, crew and contractors, and we’re looking forward to being back in the water to finish the job, and then take our beautiful ship out sailing once more. ❤️

Mending service at the Rigging Workshop - didn’t quite do a perfect job here, and too many turns - should’ve done 3 rather than 5 like I said, which makes accuracy and pulling through easier.

Thanks for everyone who came to learn rigging skills! We’ll be needing a lot of it in the weeks and months to come, so volunteers, please get in touch and join us at the rig shed to help get our beautiful ship back on the water and sailing!
