Every year, more than 185,000 Australians die, leaving an estimated 1.6 million people experiencing grief and loss. But grief doesn't only come from death. People also experience loss through serious illness, relationship breakdown, financial hardship, loss of independence, and social isolation.

Grief literacy is about understanding how grief affects us and knowing how to support others when they need it most.

MYTH: Talking about death makes people uncomfortable.

FACT: Research shows that having conversations about death, dying and grief helps people feel more informed, prepared and supported when difficult times arise. Something our 2019 Hospice volunteer cohort pictured below, and all our current and former volunteers, understand well.

Death literacy isn't about focusing on death. It's about helping people make informed choices, support loved ones, navigate grief, and know where to find help when they need it.

With the recent renaming of our community hub at 5 Craig Street to Compassionate Care Geographe, we're reinforcing a simple message: caring for one another through illness, grief, ageing and loss is everyone's business.

💙👗 THREE YEARS OF BLUE, FUN AND FUNDRAISING! 👗💙

What do you get when you combine blue dresses, a walk through town, great people, generous sponsors and a passion for supporting local families?

💙 A giant cheque for $3,121.40! 💙

A huge thank you to the Busselton Hash House Harriers and Rocky Ridge Brewing Co for supporting Go Blue for June for the third consecutive year through the now-famous Blue Dress Amble.

In the photo, we're proud to celebrate this fantastic community effort with Busselton Hash House Harriers President Brendan Vincent and BHCI Board Member (and proud Hashie) Tim Baker.

This year's total was made up of: 💙 $1,066.40 cash donations collected during the Amble
💙 $305 in card donations
💙 $250 donated by Rocky Ridge Brewing Co.
💙 $1,500 contributed by the Busselton Hash House Harriers

That's a whole lot of blue for a wonderful cause!

Thank you to everyone who dressed up, donated, walked, laughed, and helped spread the word about Busselton Hospice Care. The Blue Dress Amble has become one of our favourite Go Blue for June traditions, proving that a little bit of fun and a lot of community spirit can achieve amazing things.
