Residents at Castledare recently enjoyed an afternoon of bowling and balloon volleyball, bringing plenty of laughter, friendly competition and smiles.

Activities like these encourage gentle movement, social connection and meaningful engagement, while creating opportunities for residents to have fun and enjoy time together.

It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved, cheering each other on and sharing joyful moments as a community.

Happy 80th Birthday, Cathie! Ocean Star resident Cathie recently celebrated her 80th birthday surrounded by family and special memories. Pictured with her daughter-in-law Andrea, Cathie enjoyed marking this wonderful milestone with those closest to her.

Cathie is also pictured doing something she loves most—playing the piano. Before moving to Ocean Star, music was a big part of her life, and she continues to share her talent and passion with our community today.

Today, 15 June, Catholic Homes joins organisations around the world in recognising World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD).

Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical, psychological, financial and emotional abuse, neglect, and coercive or controlling behaviours. It is often hidden, yet it affects the safety, dignity and wellbeing of older people in our communities.

At Catholic Homes, we believe every older person deserves to feel safe, respected and valued. We all have a role to play in recognising the signs of elder abuse, speaking up when something doesn't seem right, and helping to protect the rights of older Australians.

Purple is the official colour of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and we encouraged all our staff to wear purple today.

Together, we can create communities where older people are treated with the dignity, respect and care they deserve.

💕 Generations of Love 💕

There’s something truly special about seeing generations come together.

Our resident Ruth recently enjoyed a beautiful visit with her family, sharing precious moments with her great-granddaughter Margeaux, granddaughter Claire, daughter Ilina, and sister Pat.

These cherished connections remind us of the importance of family, love, and the memories that span generations. Thank you to Ruth and her family for allowing us to celebrate this wonderful moment.

Baking is always a firm favourite at Ocean Star, with residents and staff eagerly waiting to see what delicious creations will come out of the Family Room kitchen each week.

Recently the menu included rhubarb cupcakes, pineapple pizza and upside-down pear pastries — with the wonderful smells drifting down the corridor for everyone to enjoy.

There’s nothing quite like good food bringing people together.

There was plenty of curiosity — and a very sweet surprise — at Ocean Star during one of our recent activities.

Residents spent the afternoon icing and decorating what they believed was a plain cake, all while wondering what the “Surprise Cake” activity on the calendar could possibly mean.

What they didn’t know was that staff had sneakily added hundreds and thousands into the cake batter beforehand!

The smiles and laughter when the cake was finally cut open made the surprise even sweeter.
