It’s time to celebrate another incredible year of service above self.

The Rotary Club of Somerset Inc. warmly invites all members, partners, visiting Rotarians, and friends of Rotary to our Annual Changeover Dinner.

Join us as we reflect on our community achievements over the past 12 months and witness the official handover of the chain of office to our continuing President George Cuzner and Board.

We can't wait to share this special evening of fellowship with you all.

Recently we had the privilege of welcoming Nigel Tapp - Community Relations Lead North West from the Clifford Craig Health Foundation to the Rotary Club of Somerset dinner meeting at Burnie Bowls Club and honestly? He left us feeling hopeful and inspired.

His core message stuck with us:
👉 The level of health you get should not depend on where you live.

And right here on Tasmania’s North-West Coast, that future is being built – not by big city institutions, but by local people, local researchers, and local supporters like you.

Did you know?
For every $1 invested in medical research, **$4 comes back to our community** – in better care, better outcomes, and real hope for families facing tough diagnoses.

What’s happening locally?
🏥 A new Burnie Health Hub (at the old Uni site on Mooreville Road).
🧠 An Innovation Centre – 8 years in the making with State and Federal support.
📚 A 3-year plan with the NWRH focused on research, skill development & training.
🎓 Programs to help local medical students and professionals train and stay here in North West Tasmania.

Ground-breaking research already underway (right here, for us):
· Dr. Giuliana Murfet – Digital diabetes triage system for hospitals.
· Dr. Lauren Akesson – Cancer genetic testing for rural families.
· Assoc. Prof. Herrick Webber – Asthma management in schools.
· Plus research into: maternal health, stroke care, lung disease, mRNA therapies, orthopaedic safety, and more.

Community connection matters
They’re also running public medical talks through their “Let’s Talk Health” series – short, no-nonsense, and for all of us.

And yes – he asked the big question:
“How can Rotary Club of Somerset help?”

We’re already looking at ways we can support in 2026–27 events, fundraising, volunteering. Whatever it takes to back work this important.

Thank you, Nigel for a night that was equal parts eye-opening and heartwarming. You reminded us that talent + kindness can change a whole community. ❤️

💥What wonderful news we received today💥

A huge congratulations to our recent guest speaker Chloe Foster - Waratah-Wynyard ,for throwing her hat in the ring for the upcoming Waratah-Wynyard Council elections 🗳️

Chloe, it was honestly such a joy having you speak with us. And now seeing you take this brave step for our community it just makes us cheer even louder.

Your passionate about our community and the incredible people in it, and nothing excites us more than real, positive forward momentum.

You’ve got a kind heart, great business experience and a gift for making everyone feel truly heard. That’s exactly the kind of person we need around the council table. Let’s keep moving forward together.

Chloe... We’re right behind you, every step of the way. 💛💙

She visited 'for a few months'. Then she decided to stay.

Update on our BBQ fundraiser for the Walking for Lymphoma: The Heather Henricks Memorial Walk 💚

Recently, Grady called into our club dinner meeting to officially accept our club donation that was raised from our barbecue day at Anzac Park in Somerset.

It was an honour to present these funds to such a meaningful cause, and we’re incredibly proud of everyone who bought a sausage and helped make it happen.

But we’re not stopping there the Rotary Club of Somerset Inc has already committed to helping again with next year’s event.

Thank you, Grady, for everything you and your team do for the Lymphoma Australia community.

What a wonderful night we had at the Rotary Club of Somerset dinner meeting 💛💙

We were so lucky to have Chloe Foster - Waratah-Wynyard join us as our guest speaker and honestly, she left us all feeling inspired.

Chloe is the General Manager of Australian Radio Network - North West and West Coast radio stations – 7BU Radio 7xs - West Coast Sea FM Burnie but her story is so much more than her title.

She left home when she was young, found the courage to chase a dream, and earned an international scholarship in Arts, Television and Theatre to the USA. From there, she built a career in film and TV, ran her own business in Victoria, and finally found her way home to Tasmania in 2016.

Now she lives in beautiful Boat Harbour with her young family. And you can feel how much this place means to her not just as a resident, but as a mum who wants to build a brighter future for her kids and for all of us.

Chloe has been behind some incredible local events Fire on the Foreshore NYE, Illuminate NYE, and bringing Tasmania’s first drone sky shows to life. She’s worked on the Burnie International Tennis Tournament and the Unconformity Festival.

But what touched us most was her heart. Her commitment to real partnerships, to lifting others up, and to showing up for the North West community time and time again.

We were also honoured to have special guests with us on the night, Deputy Mayor Celisa Edwards - Waratah Wynyard Council & Stephen Edwards. Thank you both for being there and supporting us..

Thank you, Chloe, for your honesty, your warmth, and your inspiration. It was a night we won’t forget. 🫂
