🪨 Rock Painting… with Water!

Who knew a little 💦 water and a 🖌️paintbrush could create so much learning and fun for kids?

Parents and carers, you too, can do this simple outdoor activity; it's a fantastic way to help your child build fine motor skills, hand strength, coordination, and concentration while having fun!

Kids love this simple and mess-free activity at home:
🖌️ Grab a paintbrush and a container of water
🖌️ Find a rock, fence, wall, or outdoor surface
🖌️ Paint, draw, make patterns, letters, numbers, or faces
🖌️ Watch the water artwork magically disappear and start again!

The best part? No mess, no waste, hours of fun for kids of all ages, and endless opportunities to practise important developmental skills through water-paint play.

Last week, Connected Beginnings Lutruwita, in partnership with Asthma Australia and Montello Primary School welcomed families, community members, educators and stakeholders to a Breathe Strong & Dream Big in Lutruwita Community Asthma Workshop in Pataway/Burnie.

The workshop aimed to strengthen community knowledge, confidence, and awareness of childhood asthma care and management, while creating opportunities for families to connect, learn, and access practical supports.

It was a great turnout, thank you to all who came to learn together about asthma prevention, management and action planning, while children enjoyed play activities and families received free asthma resources and support.

A special thank you to Jess Tyler from Asthma Australia for partnering with us to deliver this important initiative.

🫁 Jess shared:

"The Connected Beginnings team made the campaign come to life. They were dedicated to the best possible outcome, and this has been reflected in the outstanding engagement from the community."

🫁 Today is World Asthma Day!

Our new campaign with Asthma Australia, 'Breathe Strong and Dream Big in Lutruwita', features commissioned artwork by Ruby Moore, a talented and proud palawa artist from Lutruwita/Tasmania, whose work has powerfully elevated and strengthened the campaign’s message.

Ruby’s artwork is central to the campaign’s three posters, which promote asthma awareness, provide a step-by-step guide to asthma first aid, and encourage the community to update their asthma action plans.

Ruby works across both digital and canvas media, drawing inspiration from her deep love and respect for family, culture, Country, and community.

Ruby shares: “With family connections to the tayaritja/Furneaux Islands, including Truwana/Cape Barren and Flinders Island, my heritage plays an important role in shaping my art.

I began creating art as a hobby after finishing school, and it quickly grew into a strong passion. I have always loved being creative in all forms and continue to develop my style and share my work with others.”

Throw, Catch, Grow ⚽

Simple games like throwing and catching aren't just fun for kids, it's building key skills for school success!

These games support:

⚽ Coordination - helps with hand-eye coordination, which can help with writing and cutting.
⚽ Focus and attention - following the ball builds concentration for classroom tasks.
⚽ Listening skills - responding to cues like 'ready, set, throw'.
⚽ Turn-taking and social skills - essential for group learning.
⚽ Confidence - trying, missing, and trying again builds resilience.

This weekend, play catch and throw with your kids; it's more than just fun, it's preparing your little children for the schoolroom!
