It's Asthma Week - and it's everyone's responsibility to support children and families with asthma across Lutruwita/Tasmania.

Remembering Winterfest 🔥

We’re looking back at some of our past Winterfest community events in Kutalayna/Jordan River, bringing children, families, and community together for an afternoon of activities, music, connection, and plenty of conversation.

We especially loved hearing Kutalayna Collective community voices about what these events mean for local families and services, and what people want to see happening in their community.
This year, Winterfest is making way for SPRINGFEST🌸and SUMMERFEST ☀️!

🌿 Did you know?

Plants have some pretty amazing ways of looking after themselves on Country!

🔥 Some Banksias keep their seeds tucked safely inside woody pods until heat from fire helps them open.

🌱 Some native plants have clever roots that help them find nutrients in the soil.

🍃 Others have tough, waxy leaves that help them survive in challenging conditions.

And after fire, new plants can begin to grow, with more sunlight, space and nutrients available to help them along.

Next time you’re out on Country, take a closer look at the plants around you. What clever adaptations can you spot?

Let's celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day!

This year's theme, Living Our Truth, reminds us that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children grow strong when they know who they are, where they come from, and the knowledge, culture and stories carried by community across generations.

Across Lutruwita, we honour the families, mothers, fathers, grandparents, carers and community who surround Aboriginal children with love, care and cultural knowledge, and who thrive on Country, helping them grow up healthy and connected to culture and community.

Today, we celebrate every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child for the strength, curiosity and joy they bring, and the strong future they will help shape for Lutruwita.

Happy National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day. ❤️🖤💛

Thank you to all community members, early years services and collective partners who joined us to explore what the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) data is telling us about children in the Pataway/Burnie community.

The workshop sparked valuable conversations about the strengths already present in our community, as well as opportunities to work together to support improved outcomes for children and families.
A special thank you to Jill Clennett from the Department for Education, Children and Young People for sharing her knowledge and supporting community-led discussions focused on using data to inform local decision-making and action.

One of the key outcomes from the AEDC workshop is a shared commitment to establish an AEDC Sprint Group to start this term. This AEDC Sprint Group will create practical actions to support child development and health for Aboriginal children and their families.
