Burleigh in Pink evolved in October 2008 with a Pink Ribbon Breakfast for 100 guests. The breakfast quickly grew to 280 guests the following year. In addition to the breakfast, we also hold a Cocktail Party, Gala Dinner and Charity Golf Day. While the village comes together every October, it is also a time we remember Assunta Oppedisano, the wife of Jewellery on James owner Robert. With the Pink
Ribbon Breakfast held in her honour, James Street will never forget Assunta, who helped found the village’s fundraising activities. We thought it time to involve the local business proprietors and do something a little different by decorating all of the shops pink for one week. This is a fun event and has become very competitive thanks to Westpac donating first prize for the best dressed window. Burleigh Heads is a very close knit community, many of us have resided in the area for 30 -40 years hence the reason Burleigh in Pink continues to grow and has become a Community Event with not only the business proprietors involved but many of the local residents. The Burleigh community has more than doubled its fundraising efforts from 2009. To date we have raised a total of $135,557.00 with all funds raised going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, funding research for prevention and cure. The success of Burleigh in Pink would not be possible without the support of the Business community with their generous donations of auction and raffle prizes, attending our events and of more recent times Corporate Sponsorship.
