Bungwahl Rural Fire Brigade.

Good morning folks,

The “Glenrock fire” between Sugar Creek road and Tarbuck Park road has been declared out.

Brigades will not be conducting anymore routine patrols. Please note that we expect some smaller sightings of smoke as logs burn out or trees already alight fall down.

With other fires still active within the district resources are stretched, there may be some delays in someone coming to “ have a look” if called. However as always in the event of an emergency call 000

A timely reminder RFS brigades such as Bungwahl are community volunteers, your community. Joining your community brigade give you the opportunity to contribute to your community whilst learning how to manage fire in your environment to protect your own family and assets.

Both Bungwahl vehicles have been involved in the Topi road fire and Bulahdelah fires. Crews have put in significant hours including night shifts to help contain the fire
This incident could have gotten significantly bigger had it not been for the efforts of numerous bridges. Gratitude to our own members and the members of the other brigades for their efforts.
Unattended fires in any form have the capacity to destroy assets and lives. Please be extra careful in the coming weeks.

Get Ready Weekend they say, every weekend is a get ready weekend. Hundreds of Fire Survival Plan folders have been handed out, how many got opened, how many filled in.
Take a few minutes to consider your situation, understand that you are your first line of defence. The RFS and local brigades will do their best to get to your location, but is busy periods you might have suffer some of the old “ your call is important to use, you are next in cue”

First Hazard Reduction for the season, reasonably successful burn opposite the high school in Tuncurry. Bungwahl provided one of the light vehicles for easy travel around the fireground.

A few weeks ago we were called to an Assist Other Agencies, a search for an elderly gentleman in medical distress in Myall Lakes National Park. His location was known approximately thanks to a Personal Locating Beacon PLB he was carrying, access to him however not so good ( we are yet to buff out as much of the damage as possible on the vehicle).
It makes you feel good when you can achieve something that clearly saves someone else’s life, we found him, we know the feeling.
I can not overstate how important it was in finding this man having his location via PLB. His people who go off the beaten path or who do unusual stuff in unusual places this is a possible lifesaver if something goes wrong.

There more to being an RFS member than just a bit of Fire.
