Highlands Trails A mountain bike club based in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Affiliated with AusCycling. Trail-building and advocacy. Mountain bike races.

Responsible for the mountain bike trails in Wingello State Forest and at Welby. Highlands Trails is a mountain bike club that began more than a decade ago as a trail advocacy and trail building organisation, based in Bundanoon in the Southern Highlands. It has been responsible for the development and maintenance of the mountain bike trail network in Wingello State Forest, and is currently recovering and redeveloping that network following the Morton Bushfire in January 2020. In June 2022, the mountain bike section of Southern Highlands Cycling Club (SHCC) split with the road and track section, and joined with Highlands Trails. Highlands Trails will now run club mountain bike races in the Southern Highlands of NSW. These will be run by the same team of volunteers that have been running the SHCC mountain bike events in 2021/22. Initially, these will utilise the public trails at Welby, and private trail networks at Penrose and Fitzroy Falls. When Wingello State Forest reopens, events will also be run at Wingello.

We've been posting heaps of pictures of work at Wingello recently, and this weekend you can come and ride it in our "Wingel-long Laps" race on Sunday. Kicking off at 11am, you can choose up to 4 laps of a 15km course, and see how you go over a marathon distance!

A big Lady Laps welcome to the two new faces who joined us on our adventure tonight! 💜 We love seeing new riders jumping in, giving it a go and becoming part of the crew.

We’re heading to Wingello MTB Trail Network this Sunday, 30th August, to help unlock something pretty special… a BRAND NEW TRAIL! 🙌

Our amazing volunteer trail-building team will be out there shaping, digging and creating the next trail for our riding community — and we’d love for you to be part of it!

TRAIL UPDATE - WELBY: RIDE IT IN! 🙂 🚵

The upgrades to Kev’s Dream - climb out & The Oven, are progressing well, and the trail builders are asking for wheels on the ground to bed it in.

So get it there and enjoy it!

Note: The Oven trail difficulty has been adjusted to "Green/Blue", so don't let the outdated "Black signage" deter you from giving it a go!

Kev's Dream now has two exit points, One that continues on the traditional XC loop towards the Oven, and one that enables Kev's Dream "sessions" that sends riders back towards the start of the trail.
