ANZAC Day is a busy but blessed time for the Bundamba ANZAC Observance Committee. Here are some photo snippets from the many engagements that we supported this past ANZAC Day.
We are very grateful for, and thank WWII veteran Major Jean Bird who turned 100 a fortnight before ANZAC Day. Major Bird is the Patron of the Bundamba ANZAC Observance Committee and led our dawn and 0900 services in a golf cart as well as then leading the Ipswich march in a jeep, thanks to committee members John and Leone. How lucky were we to have the only WW2 Veteran out and about on ANZAC Day in Ipswich this year, at our services!
Thanks to our keynote speakers Group Captain Paul Murray and retired State Member for Bundamba Jo-Ann Miller. We also thank Hon Shayne Neumann MP, Lance McCallum (State Member for Bundamba), CRS Andrew Antoniolli and Marnie Doyle Ipswich City Council, who supported us in our services. Along with our own services the Bundamba ANZAC Observance committee also assisted with services at Milford Grange Residential Aged Care, Blackstone Welsh Church and the Ipswich Railway Workshops. As well as providing buglers for many schools and other services around the Ipswich region.
Our thanks to Ipswich Rotary and Bundamba Salvo’s for putting on a great Gunfire breakfast – as usual.
Thank you to The Salvation Army, Bundamba Corps leaders Majors Laithe and Kaelene Greenaway for their ongoing support and Bandmaster Gary Rule and Bundamba Citadel Band for your tireless efforts. Thanks also to 17 Construction Squadron, 6th Engineer Support Regiment who supported our services through Catafalque Party duties. And thank you Major Rod Strong for leading the services through again this year.
And a special thanks to all our local schools – Sacred Heart, St Peter Claver, Bundamba State Primary, Bundamba Secondary College and Riverview State Primary, as well as the Boy’s and Girls Brigades, and the Blackstone Cambrian Youth Choir. It is remarkable to see so many young people supporting ANZAC Day at Bundamba.
A huge thanks also to the communities around us that came out and joined with us in remembering those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to live in this wonderful country we call Australia.

Good evening supporter of Bundamba ANZAC Day,

As you would no doubt have heard, the weather forecast for ANZAC Day is looking most uncertain.

If on Friday the weather is as inclement as predicted, we will make use of our friends at Bunnings, and their undercover facilities.
This will be the case for both our Dawn and Main services, and parades.

The parade will form up at the Ipswich end of their carpark, and march back towards the Bundamba end.
The service will then be held in the front corner, undercover.

The carpark can still be used for parking. So, if when you wake up on Friday it is wet, you can arrive, park and participate at Bundamba, and stay dry!
We will have a makeshift Cenotaph in place, and the programme will run as per normal - just in a different space.

We want everyone to feel safe and comfortable. We don't want anyone to get unnecessarily wet - especially our veterans and our school children.
Timings remain the same - Dawn Parade 0415hrs, Service 0427hrs. Main Parade 0900hrs, service 0915hrs.
Gunfire breakfast will also proceed at the Salvo's.

The Memorial Park will remain open for anyone wishing to spend time there during the day.

But if it is wet, the march and the service will go ahead under Bunnings. If it is dry, it will be as normal.
Please let everyone know.

And finally, for your information, Retired Major Jean Bird, aged 99, will be the only World War Two Veteran participating on the day, anywhere in Ipswich.
Come along and say g'day to her!

Yesterday was the 79th Anniversary of VP Day.

We supported Milford Grange and the RSL with the Ipswich VP Day Ceremony.

Five WW2 Veterans were present. These living treasures may be all that is left of Ipswich’s WW2 veterans
