Welcome to August! Which means we've now ended Disability Pride Month... the final colour is Black (sometimes grey) which stands for oppression and resistance. Disability Pride Sydney says that "black is the colour of mourning, but it is also the colour of ninjas and resistance" - the job isn't done, celebrating identity is part of the fight for equality and justice for all 🥷✊🙌✌️🥷

It's the last day of Disability Pride Month and we have two colours of the flag left... the first is green which represents sensory disabilities. This ranges from loss of senses (such as vision) through to having sensory processing challenges.

For those with sensory processing challenges, an activity that lots of us take for granted can be overwhelming - like this example of a visit to the shops.

We’re coming close to the end of July – Disability Pride Month!
The blue stripe across the flag represents emotional and psychiatric disabilities, including mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD.

To play your part shatter the stigma by speaking openly about these disabilities, advocate by pushing for affordable, inclusive and neurodiversity-affirming mental health services. Listen to and amplify the voices of people living with mental illness in community leadership and decision-making.

During Disability Pride Month in July, the White stripe on the Disability Pride Flag specifically represents invisible, hidden, and undiagnosed disabilities. Common examples of these can be chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia and autoimmune diseases.
