This week we nationally celebrate all our Volunteers, and thank you for your time and dedication.
We would not be the organisation that we are without the many volunteers that contribute between the flags, on the beach, and within our Clubs. Not only to we grow lifesavers, we grow leaders, friendships and communities.

Do you have what it takes to represent Wide Bay Cap as a Wavemakers team? Are you aged 16–25 and keen to make a real impact in our local community?

Wavemakers is a brand new statewide program from SLSQ giving young surf lifesavers the chance to turn their ideas into real projects. Whether you're passionate about inclusion, the environment, or building a stronger club—this is your opportunity to lead something that matters.

Grab your crew (2–6 people) and bring your idea to life with:
✅ Up to $1,500 in funding
✅ ✅ Mentoring and support
✅ Workshops to build your skills
The chance to showcase your project at a statewide celebration

Your project just needs to focus on one of three areas:
– Social & Community Inclusion
– Environmental Impact
– Member Engagement

Applications are NOW open! Got an idea?

Let’s make it happen

The WBC Branch Youth Officials Pathways Program has successfully delivered strong outcomes for our region, thanks to a successful grant from Gladstone Ports Corporation.

Three officials; Micaela Harney, William Goudie and Kade Goudie, were able to attend the 2026 Australian Lifesaving Championships - where they officiated in senior roles, received elite mentorship, and advanced their leadership and accreditation.

This experience strengthens the capability of our regional clubs and supports long‑term sustainability in surf sports officiating. We sincerely thank Gladstone Ports Corporation for their commitment to community development and volunteer pathways.

Future leaders in action 🙌🌊

Young lifesavers from Emu Park Surf Lifesaving Club and Yeppoon Surf Life Saving Club teamed up recently to run a youth-led patrol at Emu Park Beach - managing operations across a busy afternoon with confidence, teamwork and leadership beyond their years.

What started as mates wanting to give back to their community quickly turned into something bigger. With full club support behind them, these young members stepped up and proved they’re more than ready to lead.

Youth-led patrols are gaining momentum across the State, and if this group is anything to go by, the future of our clubs is in very capable hands.

Well done team!

WBC Branch Junior Championships 2025-26
The weekend that was, saw 320 competitive Nippers take to the sand and water testing out their skills and having fun with their network of friends. Hosted by Moore Park SLSC, many members pitched in behind the scenes with workforce, Canteen, IRBs, First Aid and of course keeping a Patrol on the beach. Many thanks also go to our Carnival Referees, Carnival Liaison & Announcers, Officials, Water Safety Coordinator and personnel, IRB drivers and crews. It was great to welcome Surf Life Saving Queensland President Gerard O’Brien to Hervey Bay on Friday afternoon during his regional visit.
A highlight of the visit was Gerard presenting International Lifeguard Harry with his Bronze Medallion — a fantastic achievement.
Harry quickly became part of the Hervey Bay SLSC family, joining Patrol Team E alongside Hannah and Cohan, who also supported our beach as lifeguards over the holiday period.
Thanks for everything, Harry — we hope to see you back in December!
And best wishes to Hannah, Cohan and all our members heading off to university — exciting times ahead!
