I received a call this morning about an adult kangaroo that had been hit by a car South of Bundaberg, when our rescuers arrived it was a female and she had massive injuries but was still alive, she was humanely released from her suffering. there was a bird of prey circling a few metres from her body, one of the people on site checked and this little female joey was found, cold, and covered in blood in the long grass. . The little darling is now in safe hands with our carer Jan, the blood on her was from her mother. She does have some bruising and grazing on her thigh which can be seen in the photo on the right, but otherwise she's strong, alert and active and expected to make a full recovery !. Whoever hit the mother just left her to die in agony, please stop if it's safe to do so and call us for assistance and if the animal is female check for a joey. This little girls' life was saved because someone took the time to stop and check.

Hello everyone, Christine here, Last Saturday night Chrystel and I attended the Moore Park Beach Community Association Gala Ball. We were invited as special guests to represent our association and give a talk about our long established role in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation in the Bundaberg region. We had a wonderful evening , danced the night away, and as you can see we had a photo taken with the Baylando dance troop.!. The community association voted to donate the entire proceeds of their raffle to our group, so we are absolutely delighted to report that we received $780 to assist us with the ongoing cost of caring for injured and orphaned wildlife .. On behalf of all our members I would like to sincerely thank the MPB community association and all the guests who attended for this amazing donation.

Christine here, these are just a few of the rescues we've had in the last couple of days, Sub-adult duck found at Elliott Heads, he has a sore eye, some soft tissue damage and is in care with me.. The beautiful Sub-adult Peregrine Falcon was found at Calavos, unable to fly and very underweight, he was picked up by our carer and taken to the vet where he was xrayed by Dr Scott, sadly the muscle in his wing had been split in half , so he was relieved of his suffering. Fledgling birds are coming in regularly, the little dove was one of three that came in within an hour on Saturday afternoon. The Eastern Grey joey in the forefront was surrendered to us by a member of the public who had had her for a month, she was severely underweight, dehydrated and suffering from diarrhoea, she is improving in the expert hands of our carer Jan, but this is a harsh reminder to the public not to keep wildlife when you are not trained and licenced. The Echidna was thought to have been attacked by a dog, but fortunately apart from a few broken Quills he was fine and was released back to his home range by our carer Natalia. ! I had a call at 4.30am this morning regarding a kangaroo hit by car on Elliott Heads rd, police attended and the young male was humanely euthanased .A huge thank you to QPS., We are so grateful for their assistance now that Bundaberg Council is not employing a contractor to euthanase the many injured kangaroos we receive calls about !

Christine here, Two rescue calls first thing this morning. Two Squirrel gliders on the left were displaced when their home was chopped down, they are uninjured but stressed and in shock! They are now with one of our carers. The Brushtail possum on the right fell out of a tree and was then grabbed by a dog, she is currently at the vet being assessed ,hopefully there are no serious injuries, she will then be picked up by one of our carers.

Very early Sunday morning wake up call, A lovely lady named Karen called me about this Magpie hanging by his legs from a very tall tree, QFS Fire crew arrived to rescue him, and our carer Sharr-Taya was on site to take the magpie when the guys got him down ! He had fishing line wrapped around his legs and a tracer in his mouth !. .Miraculously the male maggie had no serious injury but was taken home by Sharr-Taya for assessment and a rest, after his traumatic experience. Huge thanks to Karen, the Firies and our carer Sharr-Taya for your combined effort to save this maggie.!

Hi, Christine here, it's a bit hard to see, but I got a call two nights ago about this Echidna who had squeezed in behind an air conditioning unit behind a shop in Bargara. He is totally okay, just hiding out until it's a bit quieter and less people around ! We've had a lot of calls and rescues of Echidnas lately , it is the start of breeding season for them, so please be aware that they are out and about looking for a mate and unless injured just let them go on their merry way to continue their romantic mission !

This tiny little Feathertail Glider was found by children at a school camp, she was in a water bubbler, One of the parents' called me last night and she was delivered to our carer Heather. She only weighs 5 grams and was wet and cold, but once she was warmed up she had a good drink and some food and is now safe and in good hands. when she has reached the required weight for release (10 grams)she will join a family group and be returned to the wild .

Apart from all the rescues of Kangaroos, Echidnas , snakes, possums and birds, there have been a multitude of calls regarding freshwater turtles, these guys are on the move and although most are uninjured and just need to be taken off the road, this poor guy was hit by a car and had a large piece of shell broken off. A kind passing motorist called me and took him to our carer Sherry . He has now been checked by Dr Scott at Bronson vet., he will receive daily anitbiotic needles and be in dry dock until his shell is healed.

I received a call last night about this beautiful Python, he was hit by a car at Moore Park and had climbed into the wheel well above the tyre. He was rescued by our amazing carer Chrystel. He is currently at the vet having a nasty gash stitched by Dr Scott at Bronson vet., he'll then spend time in care until he's completely healed..

This cormorant was dropped into a vet after being found on a street in North Bundaberg, the vet couldn't find anything wrong with him, so our carer Taya took him to the Botanic gardens where he seemed quite happy, but then I got another call that he had left the gardens walked across a busy road and approached a guy on a soccer field. He then left there and I got yet another call that he'd approached a lady in her yard .It became obvious that this bird was seeking human contact !. Sadly we believe that someone had hand raised him and he was just too humanised, also he couldn't fly. Taya picked him up once again and he's now in care.. This is a prime example of why inexperienced people should not keep orphaned native wildlife, This beautiful bird would have no hope of surviving in the wild !
