Phoenix House commenced its services in 1995 specialising as the “Bundaberg Area Sexual Assault Service”, providing counselling support to families and individuals of all ages and gender who had been impacted by sexual assault, sexual violence, r**e or historic sexual abuse. Since that time, we have grown exponentially, with our service provision now encompassing Medicare – Mental Health Care Plans and the National Disability Insurance Scheme. This growth has allowed us to better understand, support and service the wider community – mental health and disability support needs, within our region, inclusive of communities north to Rosedale, west to Monto and, south to Biggenden, with weekly outreach to the communities of Gin Gin and Childers.
Phoenix House’s use of on-line technology, allows regional clients greater access to our service provision and resources. Through ‘remote systems’ access we are able to provide in-home parental support, community education programs, as well as the provision of quality counselling and connection, bridging the distance of travel, for greater regional clients requiring ther**eutic support.
As a Non-Government and registered charity organisation, Phoenix House receives funding through Federal and State Government grants, to provide ther**eutic counselling and protective behaviours support to children and their families, aged 0 to 18 years, whom have experienced trauma associated with sexual abuse.
Phoenix House employees meet a range of disciplines inclusive of: Mental Health Social Workers; Accredited Counsellors; Provisionally approved Psychologists; and a number of other disciplines and volunteers congruent to ther**eutic counselling, educational and community support.
In addition to the above, the Phoenix House Ther**eutic Pre-school – “Bumblebees” has been successfully operating since 2004.
This program teaches educational strategies around safety and protection, for families and children up to 6 years of age, inclusive of parental in-home support.
Phoenix House recognise the importance of childhood safety, social connection, inclusion and wellbeing as paramount, in particular, for the very young, the maturing and, the vulnerable within society. The need to be understood, supported and connected extends to the acute fragility of mental health within our community, and is so often, seeded by our past traumatic experiences.
Motivated by the inclusion of our above service provision and community education programs, Phoenix House is working hard towards providing a ‘NO WRONG DOOR’ approach to meeting the mental health, ther**eutic and wellbeing support needs of our local and regional communities.
