My question is, what unmarried mother didn’t have her breasts bound during the 70’s? It happened to me so I thought it must happen to everyone, normal hey?

Babies know their mothers voice

When I was younger, my adoptive mother would tell a story about me as a baby.

She would sing to me,
and I would put my hands over her mouth and say,
“no, no.”

She laughed and said it was because she was tone deaf.

I don’t think that’s why.

I think it was the wrong voice.

Research shows that babies recognize their mother’s voice before they are even born 👉

After birth, they don’t just prefer it
their brains respond differently to it than to unfamiliar voices.

The mother’s voice helps shape the developing brain.
It regulates stress.
It becomes part of how the nervous system learns safety.

New voices can be learned.
Babies adapt because they have to.

But adaptation isn’t the same as familiarity.
And it isn’t the same as regulation.

As an infant, I knew.

“No” meant more than I could say.
