ITF Seafarers’ Trust LIFE AT SEA 2026

Prize Photography Competition

Calling all seafarers! Win £1000 for the best photograph of Life at Sea 2026.

The ITF Seafarers’ Trust invites you to submit your best photographs of Life at Sea in 2026. Share the good times, the bad times, the extraordinary and the ordinary day-to-day of life onboard. Snap action shots or moments of reflection. Immortalise your crew mates and capture what it’s really like living and working onboard. If you’re a seafarer but haven’t been able to join a ship in 2026 don’t despair – we want to hear from you too - send us meaningful shots of the life of a seafarer ashore.

A big thank you to Southern Ports for donating a massage chair to the Bunbury Seafarers Centre for visiting seafarers to enjoy during their shore leave.

This generous gift will provide a welcome chance for crew members to relax and unwind while away from home, and we’re sure it will be well used and greatly appreciated.

The timing couldn’t be better as we celebrate International Day of the Seafarer on 25 June 2026.

On behalf of the many seafarers who will enjoy this little bit of comfort and relaxation, thank you, Southern Ports, for your ongoing commitment to seafarer welfare.

Thank a seafarer! 🙏 🚢

If you think working a FIFO swing is full of sacrifices, spare a thought for the 1.5 million seafarers who form the backbone of international trade while often working more than eight months away from home in confined conditions.

Their sacrifices ensure our mineral resources, our grains, our timber products and much more reach global markets in order to drive our regional, state and national economies.

We're urging our communities to send a message of thanks to the seafarers visiting our ports in Bunbury, Esperance and Albany ahead of Day of the Seafarer on 25 June.

Volunteering Opportunities
Every day, seafarers arrive in Australian ports after weeks or months at sea, often far from family, friends and support networks.
Our volunteers are the friendly faces who provide a warm welcome, transport, practical assistance, and a listening ear.
Could you spare a few hours a week/month to make a real difference in the life of a visiting seafarer?
We are currently seeking volunteers across Australia.
Contact your local Mission to Seafarers centre or visit mts.org.au to learn more.

If you are a seafarer who is currently or has been working in the Gulf region or the Strait of Hormuz after 28 February 2026, an international research team want to hear about your experiences at sea.

The aim of the survey is to understand how the current instability and disruption to shipping in the Gulf region affects seafarers, and to identify factors that may help crews in similar situations in the future.

The survey is intended for all seafarers on international commercial vessels (i.e. vessels with an IMO number) who are currently in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz, or who have worked in the region after 28 February 2026

The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete. You will be asked about your experiences, as well as background questions about you and your ship. Your answers will be anonymous and will be used to make recommendations to improve life at sea.
