♻️ Yesterday the Milligan team got to get out in the sunshine and support the South West SPOGOMI Games around Koombana Bay – a fun event that got people outdoors, working as a team and helping to keep our coastline clean.

A special shout out to the amazing Tilly for organising such a great event. Your hard work and dedication made the day happen, and it was wonderful to see so many people getting involved.

Well done to everyone who took part! πŸŒβ™»οΈ

Happy Keep Australia Beautiful Day - and we're certainly doing that today! β˜€οΈ

As I type, we have a group of students scurrying around Koombana Bay taking part in the South West SPOGOMI games - organised by local legend Tilly Cumbers! Tilly also happens to be a former DDC work experience student so we get to be double proud today πŸ₯‡

SPOGOMI is a Japanese sport that combines β€œsports” and β€œgomi” (trash), where teams compete to collect and sort litter efficiently within a set time and area.

How it works
πŸƒβ€β™€οΈTypically 3–5 members per team
⏰Teams have one hour to collect trash and an additional 20 minutes to sort it correctly
πŸ“•Players cannot run, must stay within 10 meters of each other, and are prohibited from collecting trash from bins, private property, rivers, or hazardous items
πŸ†Points are awarded based on the amount and type of trash collected, with cigarette butts often scoring the highest. Incorrect sorting or rule violations can lead to point deductions or disqualification

The sport encourages teamwork, strategy, and careful sorting of waste, turning a civic responsibility into a structured game!

We love working together with inspiring individuals and groups like Tilly, and to make these events happen. Special thanks also to our own volunteers and staff that have worked so hard.

Feeling inspired? On your way to your car, your lunchbreak or your daily walk, why not pick up whatever litter you see.

We're excited to be part of the newly formed Community Collective alongside other local organisations committed to supporting our Bunbury community πŸ€πŸ’™

Working together creates opportunities to strengthen connections, identify gaps, and make an even greater impact for those who need it most.

We're looking forward to being part of this collaborative journey and seeing what we can achieve together for our community 🌱

Today marked an exciting step forward with the formation of the Community Collective, bringing together immediate relief providers from across Bunbury with a shared commitment to supporting our community.

By coming together, we're creating an opportunity to better understand the challenges people face, identify gaps in services, and explore how we can work more effectively and collaboratively. While we're only at the beginning of this journey, the energy, passion, and willingness to work together around the table was truly inspiring.

We're excited about what's possible when organisations unite around a common purpose. Together, we have the opportunity to strengthen our impact, build meaningful connections, and create better outcomes for those who need support most.

This is just the beginning, and we're excited about the positive difference we can make when we work together for our community. πŸ’™
