It's here! Steamrail Victoria's Newport Workshops Open Days weekend has arrived, who needs the vroom vrooms when there are trains, trains and more trains! Come talk with our volunteers about Yarra Valley Railway, see a video display of our works over the last few years, and a scratch built 5 inch gauge model of 22RM. We also have plenty of fantastic t-shirts in stock (while the stock lasts that is!), hats, caps and more! See you soon we'll be here all three days!

Do you C what I C?

Stairs to the cab of C10! Just in time for Newport Workshops Open Days, we have opened the cab of C10 for visitors to enter and inspect, bringing the number of locos or carriages with stairs to either view or enter up to nineteen! C10 is the last of the mighty C Class, a heavy goods locomotive that was once among the most powerful locomotives in the country. On some of the gentler-graded lines, single C Class locomotives could be seen working freight trains of up to 1000 tons in trailing load. They could also hustle passenger trains along at up to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h).

Newport Workshops Open Days is a not-to-be-missed event, and runs over all three days of the Labour Day long weekend from 10am to 5pm each day.
