Vale Michele Wilkes
It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our friend and colleague, Michele, a founding and Life Member of the Hunter Valley Communications Brigade.
Michele's service to the Rural Fire Service began during the devastating 1994 bushfires, while employed by Singleton Council. During that challenging time, she worked tirelessly alongside Fire Control Officer Peter Kinkead, providing vital administrative support and radio communications to personnel on the fireground.
Following a review of the 1994 bushfires, the importance of a dedicated communications brigade within the RFS was clearly recognised. Michele was among those who helped turn that vision into reality, becoming a founding member of the Hunter Valley Communications Brigade when it was established in 1994.
Michele's commitment to the brigade never wavered. She served as Treasurer from 1994 to 2018 and Deputy Captain from 2002 to 2021, providing leadership, guidance, and encouragement to countless members. Throughout her years of service, Michele attended out-of-area operations and was always willing to lend a hand wherever needed.
Michele was respected for her professionalism, dedication, knowledge, and unwavering commitment to supporting firefighters and emergency operations. She performed her role with pride and embodied the values of service, teamwork, and community.
In recognition of her outstanding contribution, Michele was awarded Life Membership of the Hunter Valley Communications Brigade in 2019, marking 25 years of dedicated service.
Michele leaves behind a legacy that will not be forgotten. She helped build the brigade into what it is today and touched the lives of many members throughout her years of service.
On behalf of the Hunter Valley Communications Brigade, we extend our sincere condolences to Michele's family, friends, and all who had the privilege of serving alongside her.
Rest easy, Michele. Thank you for your friendship, dedication, and outstanding service. Your contribution will be remembered with gratitude and respect. β€οΈ
