Our lovely participants Jen and Dan headed off to Ballina last week with the support of our amazing support worker Jenna.
From plane rides to museums, sightseeing and incredible food, the whole trip was a win , but the biggest highlight was this…

After five years of gentle encouragement, Jenna finally got Dan into the water for a swim! He went further than just dipping his toes, and it was such a special moment for everyone.

A massive win for Dan the man, and a proud moment for all of us here at the Access team. 💙🌊

💛 Something I’ve learned as both a mum and a support provider…

ADHD is so often misunderstood. Too many times, I hear people label a child as “naughty,” “defiant,” or “disrespectful” when in reality, what we’re seeing is a child who is struggling with something they can’t always control.

ADHD isn’t about bad behaviour or poor parenting. It’s about a brain that works differently one that can make it hard to regulate emotions, focus, or manage impulses. These kids aren’t choosing to “act out.” Most of the time, they’re overwhelmed, frustrated, overstimulated or trying to communicate in the only way they know how in that moment.

As parents, carers, and support workers, our job isn’t to discipline the ADHD out of them it’s to understand why the behaviour is happening in the first place. When we take the time to understand the “why,” we can respond with empathy instead of frustration.

The truth is, these kids are often some of the most creative, kind-hearted, and resilient souls you’ll ever meet. They just need the adults around them to see beyond the behaviour and meet them with patience, support, and understanding.

So next time you see a child struggling whether it’s your own or someone else’s pause before judging. There’s always a reason behind what you see. 💛

Let’s keep spreading awareness and compassion.
Love to all Renae 🥰

Check out what our Access crew have been getting up to! 😁😁
From exploring local beaches and discovering wildlife, to fishing, learning new skills, playing lawn bowls, and visiting the beautiful Hunter Valley Botanical Gardens , our participants have been busy getting out and about in the community!

These experiences not only bring fun and connection, but also help build confidence, independence, and social skills while supporting each participant’s individual goals. 🌿🎣🌸💙
