BATS Theatre Company Inc is one of the longest running local theatre companies on the Sunshine Coast. You can do as much or as little as you wish.

BATS prides itself on being one of the largest Theatre groups on the Coast while still maintaining the friendly camaraderie of Theatre lovers whether involved actively or socially. As an active member the opportunities are never ending...From being in the spotlight on stage, directing, guiding productions from behind the scenes, costumes, make-up, lighting, set design and construction, to being our public face working on front-of-house and behind the bar. Our shows provide something for everyone - musicals, dramas, comedies and pantomimes! As a purely social member there are still opportunities to be a total part of our Theatre. We have social events such as picnics, trivia nights, breakfasts, informal get-togethers, where all members can meet for a good time. At any show you may come to, we would be pleased if you introduced yourself and had a chat. Committee members can be identified by their badges and are more than willing to answer your questions or listen to your comments, as are our front-of-house and bar staff. After each performance cast members usually gather at the bar to chat and relax and we encourage the audience to join them.

BATS welcomes back Nicholas Donnadieu-Madden and Kirsty White, back for more starring roles on the Buderim stage. Don’t miss the hilarious farce, INSPECTOR DRAKE AND THE BLACK WIDOW by David Tristram. Directed by Julian White.

NICHOLAS DONNADIEU-MADDEN: (Inspector Drake) Nicholas is currently in his fifth year of a double degree in Law and Criminology at the University of the Sunshine Coast as well as working on his Honours degree. Apart from acting, Nicholas is also a valued member of the BATS technical team.

Imagine Fawlty Towers meets a murder mystery.That is, essentially, INSPECTOR DRAKE AND THE BLACK WIDOW.

A classic English farce featuring a cross between ‘Inspector Clouseau’ and ‘And Then There Were None’ will have you laughing out loud and forgetting about the outside world. A dead body is found whilst dusting at 3.00am, which sets up a play that is an amusing parody of the whodunnit genre, that’s packed with lots of visual gags, subtle adult innuendo, all topped with a touch of cross-dressing.

The plot, set in the 1920’s, has Sergeant Plod send for the infamous Inspector Drake to help solve the murder of John Johnson who has been stabbed in the back whilst wearing his wife’s dress. The two are thwarted by a series of women who look suspiciously alike, with triplets born two months apart, a missing semi-tropical spider and a lustful widow. Just a few of the obstacles facing Inspector Drake.

BATS welcomes Arto Mutka to the Buderim stage for our next production - INSPECTOR DRAKE AND THE BLACK WIDOW, a hilarious whodunit by David Tristram, directed by Julian White.

Arto studied drama at the University of Queensland, and has since been performing in Brisbane community theatre groups for over 30 years. Arto relocated to Little Mountain in January, and is thrilled to be treading the boards for his first role on the Sunshine Coast with BATS Theatre Company Inc.
Arto achieved a lifelong ambition in 2011 when he played Christopher Wren in the Redcliffe Mousetrap Theatre’s production of Agatha Christie’s iconic play the Mousetrap. Other performances include Edmund in Shakespeare’s King Lear for King Street Players, The Heiress for St Luke’s Theatre, Arms and the Man and Ghost Train for API Theatre. At Sandgate Theatre he played Inspector Pratt in two plays - Murdered to Death and Secondary Cause of Death. Other shows for Sandgate Theatre include the theatre restaurant shows Jest at the West, A Villain was a Lady and Jungle Juice.
Arto is also a former President of Sandgate Theatre Inc and former Secretary of the Association of Community Theatres Qld (ACTQ).
