alumni network built to connect and support the passionate individuals who have contributed to the sport across Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. Our mission is simple: to nurture and develop future generations of Gridiron and Flag Football athletes while preserving the history and spirit of the game. The sport of Gridiron has a rich history in Australasia, with countless players, coaches, and fans contributing to its growth. From celebrating local achievements to creating pathways for aspiring athletes, GAFAA ensures that the legacy of the sport continues to thrive. We are also working towards the creation of an Online Virtual Museum to preserve the stories, struggles, and triumphs of the sport in our region.

Last weekend, our Chairman & Founder, Tim Chant, along with American Football Queensland President, Troy Wykes, had the pleasure of being on local Brisbane radio station 102.1 4zzz’s Ballzzz in the Air radio show!

Tim & Troy promoted the upcoming contact season. Their synergy was immaculate as they highlighted everyone’s homefield locations, pre-season recruitment and season start date, September 26th, as well as promoting the Sun Bowl game that will be held on December 12th. This was another GAFAA Initiative as part of our Player Care & Giveback Programs.

The hosts, Chris & Anthony, were absolutely fantastic! Anthony shared his experience at the last Sun Bowl and noted the difference of spectating a game in-person compared to watching on TV. He particularly noted that hearing and feeling the hits is on a completely different level!

Ballzzz in the Air is on 102.4 4zzz every Saturday from 9am – 10am, promoting and highlighting sports in South East Queensland.

Coming up this Saturday, former Seattle Seahawks superstar, Jesse Williams, will be hosting an elite training camp at Ballymore Rugby Union Club. Scouts from the USA will be there representing varying colleges & universities for scholarships!

GAFAA Supporter’s Club has been working together with 4zzz & Ballzzz in the Air for over two years now. We extend our gratitude and thank them for their support!

We are delighted to welcome Sylvie Moser as our Independent Board Secretary.

As a new Board, one of our priorities is to ensure we build the right foundations for the future of our sport and that starts with strong governance, independence, transparency and accountability.

Sylvie brings extensive governance experience, corporate leadership and a genuine commitment to integrity and best practice.

Importantly, her appointment as an independent Board Secretary strengthens the governance framework around the Board and supports us to remain focused on what we are here to do: govern, guide and strategically position American football in Victoria for the future.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Bridie. Her kindness and contribution to our community will not be forgotten. Many will remember her for her loyalty, inclusiveness, encouragement, and the way she put 100% into everything she did. Our thoughts are with Bridie’s family and friends during this difficult time 🤍

We will be holding a minute of silence at the game this weekend at 2pm to honour Bridie.

Former Australian Seattle Seahawks Superstar, Jesse Williams is setting up a new elite training camp for all players who are interested in going to College/University in the USA! This is the perfect training camp to be at with scouts coming over from the States to find up and coming talent! Very exciting times for American Football in Australia! GAFAA Supporter’s Club fully supports Jesse Williams on his journey!
The contact season in the ACT is starting this weekend! We at GAFAA send all players our support and best wished for the season ahead!
The Southern Bowl in South Australia has confirmed that it will be held on December 19th! Three grades will be competing to find out who the best players in SA are!

We’ve received news that Western Australia has withdrawn from the American Football Australia National Competition.
Moreton Bay Raptors are looking for any and all interested in the Northern Brisbane areas!
If you’ve ever considered giving American Football a try, all ages are welcome from ages 12+
We’re also extremely glad to see that there’s a big push in uptake of the women’s division in some states as well. It warms our hearts to see the sport we love growing so quickly.

Coming up soon in Sydney, the Asia Pacific Club Championships has the biggest prize pool a Flag event has seen to date!
Registrations are now open for senior men’s & women’s teams to compete for $5000!
The event will be held on September 5-6th, be sure to get your registrations in quick if you’re interested in competing for this momentous prize!
