Gogo Sarah’s MOSS clean water tap was installed over a year ago, enabling her to water her veggie garden.
Her most recent crop of sweet corn/maise and pumpkins has provided Sarah and her 2 small grandchildren with a plentiful supply of nutritious food. Sarah’s ducks and goats are also benefiting from this food security and contamination free water.

Sarah relies on candle light and wood fired cooking as her mud house is not strong enough to support the weight of connecting an electric wire to a nearby power pole. In winter the nights are long and dark when she is unable to afford candles. (around 85 cents AUD or € 0.50).

Sarah’s grandchildren’s parents have gone away to work and can’t afford to return home, so Sarah is their full-time carer.

Sarah is very grateful for the clean water supply as now she does not need to walk all the way to a local water hole with her grandchildren to carry heavy buckets of water home -up to the top of the hill where she lives.

The Mganti MOSS Foundation clean water system comprises:
• 2 catchment dams.
• Eight tanks in total, including a 2 tank sand filter station
• 80 standpipe taps for 1,220 people
• 9,500 metres of hand dug trenches.

Thank you so much to all of the MOSS Foundation supporters for making this life changing permanent water system an awesome success.

29th May 2026.
Today and I revisited Phimzile’s House ‘Orphanage’ to see how the MOSS clean water project is going 11 years after installation.
The MOSS water supply is still supporting ongoing cultivation of food crops, which enables Phumzile to feed her own family and the orphans that live at her homestead of small buildings.
MOSS Foundation Africa’s hard working, caring team have been working closely with their local community since 2007 and ensure MOSS clean water systems are well maintained meet basic living needs whilst remaining aligned culturally.
31 systems have been constructed so far and we have several more communities waiting in the pipeline.
Great work Bruce Jameson .bruce, Hendry Khumba Dlamini and Mduduzi Dlamini
